Position: Projects Costing Engineer
Location: Nairobi Head Office
Reports To: Group Projects Manager
Job Summary
The Projects Costing Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial success and operational excellence of various projects undertaken by Davis & Shirtliff. This includes overseeing cost estimation, budget monitoring, tender documentation, and stakeholder engagement throughout the project lifecycle—from bidding through to successful project commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in preparing tender bids and technical proposals.
- Estimate quantities, costs, and timescales for materials and labor for both internal budgeting and external tenders.
- Prepare detailed tender and contract documents in collaboration with the relevant departments.
- Negotiate terms of contracts and evaluate financial and operational feasibility.
- Identify commercial risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Manage budgets and assess project value during and after execution.
- Ensure projects meet all legal requirements and quality standards as stipulated in contracts and national regulations.
- Submit comprehensive and regular budget and project performance reports.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and organizational policies.
- Review project schedules to align with organizational objectives.
- Interact directly with clients to understand their requirements and represent their interests on-site.
- Perform quality control and performance monitoring across budgets, schedules, and personnel.
- Report on project progress, including any deviations from planned timelines or costs.
- Coordinate stakeholders and ensure effective communication across all involved parties.
- Oversee all allocated projects from inception to commissioning, with a focus on customer satisfaction and quality.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Upper Second-Class degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
- Quantity Surveying Certification.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in quantity surveying, preferably with a reputable organization.
- Proven track record in sales with strong customer service orientation.
- Strong organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, and best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple discipline projects effectively and efficiently.
