Job Description
As a Programme Management Intern, you will work under the direct supervision of designated UNODC staff in the Eastern Africa regional office. The internship will provide you with exposure to UNODC’s global, regional, and country-level activities, particularly in support of projects and programmes across thematic areas such as crime prevention, criminal justice reform, counter-narcotics, corruption, and terrorism prevention.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support Programme Implementation and Monitoring
- Assist in the implementation of programme activities, including research, administrative support, and drafting relevant documentation (e.g., concept notes, workplans, progress reports).
- Support project teams in tracking results and ensuring compliance with organizational procedures and timelines.
- Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation, including gathering data and analyzing programme outputs and outcomes.
- Help maintain accurate records of activities and contribute to the development of dashboards and visual reports.
2. Research and Analysis
- Conduct desk research on topics related to drugs, crime, justice reform, and other thematic priorities of UNODC.
- Compile information and summarize key findings to inform programme design and implementation.
- Draft briefing notes, talking points, background papers, and fact sheets for internal and external use.
3. Administrative and Logistical Support
- Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and events, including liaising with partners and preparing event documentation.
- Provide day-to-day administrative support, including document formatting, filing, travel arrangements, and correspondence.
- Support the procurement and logistical planning of project activities in accordance with UN rules and regulations.
4. Communication and Outreach
- Assist in maintaining and updating project web pages, newsletters, and other communication materials.
- Contribute to the drafting of social media content, success stories, and promotional materials for campaigns and events.
- Help document field activities through photos, interviews, and written summaries.
5. Collaboration and Coordination
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and cross-functional coordination with other UNODC staff.
- Engage with counterparts from government agencies, civil society, and other UN offices on collaborative assignments.
- Provide general support to multi-sectoral efforts in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).

Eligibility and Duration
This internship is offered for an initial period of two to six months. Internships may be extended up to a total of six months, depending on the intern’s academic requirements and the needs of the office.
Note: As per UN Secretariat rules, internships are unpaid and interns must cover all costs associated with travel, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses.
Location and Working Arrangements
- Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya (In-person)
- Interns are expected to work full-time, Monday to Friday, under the supervision of UNODC staff.
- Flexible working arrangements may be considered in special circumstances, depending on operational needs.
