About the Role
As a Trips and Visits Specialist I, you will play a vital support role in organizing, coordinating, and executing visits and tours designed to immerse guests in the life-changing work of Compassion International in Kenya. You’ll work in close collaboration with internal teams, church partners, and translators to ensure each visit is impactful, smooth, safe, and aligned with Compassion’s child protection standards.
This position falls under shared accountability between the Global Marketing Experience (GME), Global Partnerships (GP), and Global Program Africa (GPA) teams. The role contributes to strategic goals by influencing cross-cultural learning, advocacy, and increasing sponsorship and donor engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Christian Witness and Child Advocacy
- Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and consistently demonstrate Christ-like conduct.
- Act as an advocate for children by raising awareness and responding appropriately to issues of child abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Tours and Visit Coordination
- Support the marketing and donor engagement teams by facilitating vision trips and donor visits that offer meaningful exposure to Compassion’s core ministry programs.
- Partner with church leaders and field teams to plan, schedule, and coordinate all aspects of visits including child/family home visits, project tours, and staff interactions.
- Work closely with the Partnership Facilitators and training teams to build capacity and strengthen the quality of hosted visits.
- Logistics and Operations
- Assist with booking accommodations, managing in-country transportation, purchasing gifts, and preparing detailed visit schedules.
- Use sound judgment to protect both Compassion’s interests and the safety and well-being of all visitors and local participants.
- Ensure all logistics align with Compassion’s budgeting standards and child protection policies.
- Translator Coordination
- Recruit and train translators who will accompany visitors during field visits.
- Arrange for their payment and ensure they are aligned with Compassion’s values and expectations.
- Trip Quality and Evaluation
- Explain Compassion’s programs to visitors to ensure trip goals and spiritual outcomes are understood.
- Collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders to continually improve the effectiveness of visits.
- Team Collaboration
- May provide guidance or support to peers in the tours and visits discipline.
- Participate in feedback and evaluation sessions to identify areas for improvement.
Required Attributes and Experience
- Proven experience (2–3 years) in hospitality, tourism, or event planning with a strong focus on international guest hosting.
- Experience working across diverse cultural contexts.
- Strong skills in planning, coordination, and crisis responsiveness.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills; outgoing, responsive, and a team player.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; flexible to work beyond regular office hours, including weekends.
- Demonstrated servant leadership and attentive listening capabilities.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
Working Environment
- Office Setting: Standard office environment in Nairobi.
- Physical Demands: Sitting, walking, and standing up to 8 hours per day.
- Travel Requirements: National travel up to 50% of your schedule, occasionally requiring overnight stays and work outside of normal office hours.
