NTA is seeking to recruit a highly experienced and visionary National Coordinator who will serve as the organization’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), leading strategic direction, overseeing daily operations, and building the organization’s impact across Kenya and beyond.
Vacancy: National Coordinator (1 Position)
About the Role
The National Coordinator serves as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NTA and reports directly to the National Governing Council. The successful candidate will be responsible for spearheading the strategic, operational, and programmatic execution of NTA’s vision and mission. This role demands an exceptional leader with a strong track record in managing policy advocacy initiatives and guiding multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Governance
- Provide visionary leadership and set the strategic direction of the organization in collaboration with the National Governing Council.
- Serve as the Secretary to the National Governing Council, ensuring timely preparation of agenda and minutes.
- Report regularly to the Governing Council on progress in implementing NTA’s strategic plan.
- Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
- Proactively initiate and lead fundraising efforts and negotiate grants with development partners and donors.
- Build and sustain long-term donor relationships aligned with NTA’s core values and strategic direction.
- Organizational Management
- Oversee the daily operations of NTA and supervise senior management, including the Finance & Administration Manager and Programmes Manager.
- Ensure staff development, operational efficiency, and effective performance management across all departments.
- Develop policies and systems to enhance accountability and performance.
- Program Oversight and Implementation
- Provide leadership in the design, execution, and monitoring of multi-county and national-level programs.
- Ensure that NTA’s programmatic interventions effectively influence progressive tax and public service policies.
- Oversee the integration of gender-responsive budgeting, pro-poor revenue generation, and inclusive development in all advocacy efforts.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as the official spokesperson of the organization, ensuring all statements reflect NTA’s values and are vetted by top management.
- Foster strategic partnerships with civil society, government agencies, donors, academic institutions, and international networks.
- Represent NTA in national and international forums relevant to tax justice, governance, and public finance.
- Organizational Development and Growth
- Guide and manage the sustainable growth of NTA through strategic planning, innovation, and institutional strengthening.
- Develop new networks and partnerships to scale the organization’s impact.
- Champion institutional learning, research, and documentation to position NTA as a thought leader in good governance.
Professional Experience and Core Competencies
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should possess:
- Over 10 years of professional experience in managing policy advocacy projects, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Demonstrated ability in managing projects funded by diverse donors with varying compliance requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of Kenya’s tax systems and international tax landscapes, especially relating to:
- Pro-poor taxation
- Development financing
- Public budgets
- Gender-responsive budgeting
- Debt and tax justice
- Economic inequality
- A proven record of designing and overseeing multi-county projects focused on economic justice, progressive fiscal policies, and improved public service delivery.
- Experience in initiating and nurturing strategic partnerships that enhance advocacy impact and program sustainability.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with confidence in engaging with government officials, donors, media, and citizens.
- Knowledge of financial management, budgeting, and proposal writing.
- Fluency in English and Swahili.
- Proven ability to write high-quality reports and policy documents.

Educational Requirements
Applicants must hold one of the following:
- A PhD or Master’s degree in Economics, Political Science, Law, or a related discipline.
Location
The position is based in Nairobi, with occasional travel across Kenya as required by program activities.
