As part of our continued commitment to improving program quality and accountability, we are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant based in Dadaab. This role will play a key part in ensuring data-driven decision-making and accountability within our field operations.

Role Overview

Under the general guidance and direction of the MEAL Coordinator, and in close collaboration with the Programme Manager, the M&E Assistant will be responsible for program quality assurance, accountability, documentation, and learning. The role involves managing day-to-day M&E activities including data collection, collation, entry, analysis, and facilitating data use for strategic decision-making.

The M&E Assistant will ensure quality assurance of field-based data collection processes, assess program implementation quality, support community accountability systems, and contribute to producing reliable data and evidence to inform project improvements.


Key Responsibilities

Data Management and Analysis

  • Work with the MEAL Coordinator and program team to collect, organize, and verify the accuracy of data before entry into the database.
  • Perform data entry tasks and generate summary reports and trend analysis for internal use by program teams.
  • Maintain an updated and well-organized filing system for data collection tools and reports.
  • Update and manage databases of all project data and facilitate easy retrieval of information for reporting.
  • Maintain key tools including the Monitoring Action Tracker, the Indicator Performance Tracking Table (IPTT), and the PRIME output tracker.

Field Monitoring and Accountability

  • Participate in regular field visits to monitor project activities, including post-distribution monitoring, and provide reports with actionable feedback.
  • Facilitate community feedback sessions, focus group discussions, and semi-structured interviews; compile and relay feedback to relevant departments for follow-up.
  • Support beneficiary accountability systems and ensure prompt response and follow-up using the Complaint and Feedback Mechanism (CFM).
  • Maintain the CFM database and conduct regular analysis to inform program learning and adaptation.

Documentation and Learning

  • Assist in collecting and documenting human interest stories and case studies showcasing program impact and best practices.
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting by compiling relevant qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Assist in data quality audits, spot checks, and on-the-job training to promote accurate data management in supported health facilities and community units.

Survey and Evaluation Support

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of surveys, operational research, and evaluations.
  • Supervise field data collection, ensuring adherence to quality standards and protocols.
  • Assist in adopting and testing new technologies to enhance M&E functions, including digital data collection and visualization tools.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning, preferably within INGOs or UN Agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in field settings, with at least 2 years of field-based experience.
  • Strong understanding of community participation and accountability systems.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and technologies for data collection, analysis, and visualization (e.g., STATA, SPSS, Google Suite, mobile data collection apps).
  • Experience in report writing, data visualization, and information dissemination.

Desirable

  • Experience working in arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL).
  • Experience managing donor-funded programs, particularly from private and international sources.
  • Prior exposure to data-driven decision-making platforms and interactive dashboards.
  • Experience in training and capacity building of field staff in M&E systems.
  • Knowledge of local languages (e.g., Somali) will be an added advantage.
