Reporting to the Manager- Fixed Capacity & Optimization, the Engineer- Fixed Capacity and Optimization will be responsible for planning, design & verification of Fixed network infrastructure to support both Regional Internal and External Customers, optimization of Fixed network infrastructure to meet demand and database management of network elements
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with Business partners and internal stakeholders to capture fixed network and business needs.
- Deliver reliable and resilient fixed network that meets customer demand.
- Capture and monitor fixed capacity available on the ground
- Explore and monitor opportunities for infrastructure sharing with third parties
- Conduct acceptance as per agreed standards and procedures
- Collaborate with rollout team to ensure delivery targets and objectives are met.
- Engage current and potential customers to understand demand on Fixed network with focus on availability and superior experience
- Forecast fibre capacity requirements both for the short and medium term
- Develop and seek approval of efficient design methodology and tools for Fibre networks to ensure high availability and cost efficiency.
- Drive innovation in Fibre design and deployment in line with the best global practices
- Develop and maintain the standards and processes to be used in Fibre planning and deployment
- Enforce standards in the materials used in infrastructure deployment to ensure optimum QoS and network lifespan.
- Plan and validate fibre material requirements
- Conduct audit on materials quality and quantity with the approved suppliers leveraging on emerging global trends
- Monitor and reconcile inventory utilization, setting up timely re-order threshold of material requirements.
- Drive and enforce safe work culture through adoption of EHS standards and processes that ensure zero harm to all stakeholders
- Compile and share GIS network footprint maps with both internal and external stakeholders to enable optimal decision making.
- Maintain an accurate fixed network database of route plans and elements
- Analyze major CAPEX investments in line with business strategy.
- Drive OPEX Savings initiatives
- Coordinate weekly preventive maintenance report reviews to assess and come up with network resiliency measures.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Engineering or related field with relevant technical qualifications
- 3-year experience in GIS based network delivery with at least one year in a busy telecommunication environment
- In-depth understanding of transmission and fixed infrastructure deployment
- Knowledge of transport planning, design and optimization tools
- Certifications in CFOD/S, ITIL, Project management or equivalent
- Member in good standing of a recognized professional body
- Have strong analytical and negotiation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in both hardware and software support and configuration
