Mama Shamba Maisha” is a five-year research study to be implemented by the Kenya Medical Research Institute and the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). The study seeks to explore the effects of an innovative agricultural intervention package on the health of pregnant women, pregnancy outcomes, and infant health. Women will be enrolled in early pregnancy and followed through to the first year post-delivery with several health outcome measures
Person Specification and Experience:
= Kenya Certificate Secondary Education or equivalent.
– At least 4 years’ experience in practical farming or agricultural extension experience,
preferably with rural farmers
– Basic understanding of farming techniques, soil and water conservation and pest
management
– Ability to communicate agricultural concepts in a simple, engaging and culturally
appropriate manner.
– Certification in general agriculture or an equivalent experience in agriculture or
community training
– Experience working with smallholder farmers, women groups or youth in agriculture
is an added advantage
– Knowledge of local languages is an added advantage
– Must be a residence of Migori and living in Migori in Rongo or Suna east/west subcounties for the period of the study
