About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and responsible Driver to join our Operations team in Marsabit. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of Mercy Corps staff, goods, and services within the region. As a key member of the logistics support team, you will uphold our standards of safety, integrity, and service excellence.

This role is ideal for someone with strong local knowledge of Marsabit County—especially North Horr region—and a demonstrated track record of safe and professional driving under diverse field conditions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Transport Services
    • Operate Mercy Corps vehicles safely and as assigned by your supervisor.
    • Follow all country traffic laws and Mercy Corps transport policies and safety protocols.
    • Provide transportation support to Mercy Corps staff, partners, and visitors as needed.
  • Vehicle Management
    • Maintain vehicle log-sheets in accordance with organizational policies.
    • Regularly inspect vehicle condition after trips and report issues promptly.
    • Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and well-maintained.
    • Ensure the safekeeping of vehicle equipment, spare parts, and documentation.
  • Operational Support
    • Assist with logistics and daily operational workloads at the office.
    • Help staff troubleshoot transportation or logistical issues.
    • Undertake field assignments, often traveling to insecure or remote areas.
  • Reporting & Documentation
    • Prepare and submit monthly fuel consumption and maintenance reports.
    • Maintain accurate records of trips and fuel usage.
  • Compliance & Ethics
    • Follow Mercy Corps’ policies, code of conduct, and safety regulations.
    • Uphold Mercy Corps’ humanitarian mission and safeguard our reputation.
  • Team Collaboration
    • Work closely with the Program and Operations teams.
    • Provide courteous and effective assistance to staff and visitors.
    • Support efforts towards accountability and community engagement.

Reports to: Operations Officer, Marsabit Office
Works with: Program and Operations Teams


Minimum Requirements and Skills

  • Valid driver’s license and certificate of good conduct
  • O’ Level certificate (an added advantage)
  • Computer literacy is required
  • At least 3 years of driving experience with a reputable NGO
  • Proficiency in operating 4×4 vehicles
  • Strong familiarity with Marsabit County, particularly North Horr region
  • Ability to drive safely in insecure and remote environments
  • Good understanding of English and fluency in Swahili
  • Knowledge of local languages spoken in Marsabit County is an asset

Work Environment

The position is based in Marsabit with frequent travel—up to 40%—across field sites and rural locations, some of which may be insecure or have limited amenities. Housing is provided in individual accommodations, and staff have access to adequate medical services and living conditions.
