As part of the UNODC Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA), the intern will support initiatives aimed at strengthening criminal justice systems, promoting good governance, and combating illicit drug trafficking, corruption, and transnational organized crime. Job Description
Position Title: Programme Management Intern
Duty Station: Nairobi, Kenya

Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer and in collaboration with the wider programme support team, the Programme Management Intern will undertake the following key responsibilities:
- Programme Support:
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating ongoing projects and programmes implemented by UNODC in the region.
- Draft reports, briefing notes, presentations, and other documents related to programme planning and implementation.
- Support in reviewing and analysing project documents, proposals, work plans, budgets, and monitoring frameworks.
- Research and Analysis:
- Conduct background research and data collection on topics related to UNODC’s mandate, including criminal justice reform, anti-corruption, organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism prevention.
- Assist in drafting analytical summaries, policy briefs, and fact sheets.
- Administrative and Logistical Support:
- Help in organizing meetings, workshops, and official missions by coordinating logistics, preparing background materials, and documenting outcomes.
- Maintain programme files, project documentation, and databases.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including government counterparts, NGOs, donors, and UN agencies to support programme delivery.
- Contribute to the drafting and dissemination of internal communications, meeting minutes, and reports.
- Other Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may include support to ongoing operational initiatives, communication activities, or data management tasks.
Qualifications / Special Skills
The internship is open to candidates who meet the UN Internship Programme eligibility criteria, which include:
- Enrollment in, or completion of, a graduate-level degree programme in fields such as international relations, public administration, political science, law, development studies, or related disciplines.
- A keen interest in the field of international development, crime prevention, human rights, or governance.
- Good working knowledge of standard computer applications (MS Office Suite).
- Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and as part of a team.

Languages

Additional Information

- The internship is offered on a full-time basis. Interns are expected to work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
Intern-Specific Terms
- Interns shall not be eligible to apply for or be appointed to any professional or temporary position in the UN Secretariat during the internship and for six months immediately following the expiration date thereof.
- Interns shall observe all applicable policies, regulations, and instructions of the United Nations.
- Interns shall not represent the UN in any official capacity or commit resources on its behalf.
