Position: Airframe and Engines Maintenance Engineer

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Main Purpose of the Role

As the Airframe and Engines Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining the airworthiness of AMREF Flying Doctors’ aircraft fleet through the execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. You will ensure full compliance with Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) regulations, AMREF procedures, and other applicable standards.

This role is vital in upholding our world-class safety standards, supporting life-saving missions, and maintaining the reliability of our aircraft.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (line and base) according to the approved maintenance programs.
  • Conduct maintenance activities off-base when required.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, modify, and perform functional tests on:
    • Airframes
    • Engines
    • APUs
    • Aircraft components and systems
  • Assemble, disassemble, and repair airframes, engines, and associated systems.
  • Certify that all aircraft and components are service-ready after maintenance.
  • Report and record abnormalities or damages discovered during inspections.
  • Supervise aircraft technicians and ground personnel during maintenance tasks (including cleaning, fueling/defueling).
  • Tow and reposition aircraft safely during maintenance.
  • Ensure maintenance facilities and equipment are up to industry standards.
  • Collaborate with flight crew for accurate defect identification and recording.
  • Analyze and interpret technical and manufacturer documentation.
  • Monitor and manage completion of all assigned planned maintenance work.
  • Work in conjunction with other departments to complete projects efficiently.
  • Assist in all tasks related to AMREF Flying Doctors’ AOC aircraft maintenance.
  • Oversee management of technical tool stores and related publications.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly calibrated and maintained.
  • Track and report reliability data and deferred maintenance items.
  • Transfer technical log defects to digital systems with full documentation.
  • Manage engine condition trend monitoring and related data analysis.
  • Identify and request necessary replacement parts and assist in procurement.
  • Inspect all received parts before acceptance into technical stores.
  • Prepare outgoing shipments for core/exchange units.
  • Participate in AMO audits and review subcontractor work packages.
  • Implement and support quality audit programs.
  • Generate reports on component usage, fleet maintenance, and warranties.
  • Assist the Head of Base Maintenance (HOBM) in subcontractor support.
  • Undertake any additional engineering support duties as assigned.
