About the EU Delegation to Kenya

The EU Delegation to Kenya represents the European Union in Kenya and works to strengthen the EU-Kenya partnership through diplomatic relations, political dialogue, development cooperation, trade, and communication with both the government and Kenyan society. The Political, Press and Information Section plays a vital role in this mission, engaging with Kenyan stakeholders, analyzing political developments, and managing public communications.

Position: Trainee – Political, Press and Information Section

Main Responsibilities

As a trainee in this dynamic section, your day-to-day activities will expose you to a range of diplomatic and public affairs tasks. You will:

  • Support Political Analysis and Reporting
    • Work under the guidance of the Political Adviser to monitor and analyze current political trends in Kenya.
    • Draft reports and contribute to political briefings and insights that help shape EU engagement strategies in the region.
  • Contribute to Media Engagement
    • Collaborate with the Press and Information Officer to support the Delegation’s engagement with the Kenyan media.
    • Assist in preparing press materials, media monitoring, and press reviews.
  • Support Public Communication
    • Help maintain and update the Delegation’s website and social media accounts.
    • Contribute to the development of digital content and public information campaigns.
  • Design and Layout of Communication Materials
    • Support the section in producing visual materials such as brochures, infographics, and presentations.
    • Assist in planning public diplomacy events and outreach activities.
  • Meeting Preparation and Administrative Tasks
    • Assist in preparing for meetings, taking minutes, and ensuring effective follow-up.
    • Perform various administrative tasks to ensure smooth operation of the section.
  • Other Tasks
    • Participate in internal and external meetings, events, and briefings as required.
    • Fulfill other duties as assigned to support the team’s objectives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Eligibility: Candidates must meet the general criteria for funded traineeships at EU Delegations. Applicants from EU Member States must:
    • Be covered for pandemic risks and repatriation.
    • Hold the appropriate visa or residence permit for Kenya.

  • Compliance: The traineeship must comply with both local Kenyan legislation and the legal framework of the candidate’s home country.
