Job Overview

The Perioperative Theatre Technology Trainer will play a central role in the delivery of a high-quality curriculum in perioperative theatre technology. The position demands a dynamic and experienced professional who is capable of both teaching and inspiring students in a practical training environment.

The ideal candidate will have a robust clinical background, a strong command of theatre procedures, and teaching experience in an academic setting. This role is critical in ensuring students are fully equipped with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to succeed in surgical and operating theatre environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Perioperative Theatre Technology Trainer, you will:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver theoretical and practical lessons in accordance with the approved course outlines and curriculum.
  • Develop and update learning materials and professional teaching records to reflect current standards and practices.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, achievement, and attendance regularly.
  • Create individualized learning plans to cater to the diverse needs of students.
  • Prepare, administer, and mark Continuous Assessment Tests (C.A.Ts) and final assessments.
  • Upload student marks in a timely manner to the Management Information System (MIS).
  • Guide students during practical sessions, ensuring effective skill acquisition and maintaining accurate portfolios of evidence.
  • Supervise and mentor students during internal and external assessments.
  • Contribute actively to the planning, development, and implementation of a high-quality curriculum.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, course reviews, and curriculum improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or the Head of Department.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Possesses practical experience in theatre operations and surgical procedures.
  • Has prior experience teaching or training students in a university or tertiary institution setting.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • Higher National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Nursing, Medical Technology, or a related health field from a recognized institution.
  • Registered Nurse status with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience working as a Perioperative Theatre Technologist or in a related role, with significant exposure to theatre operations and surgical procedures.
  • Proven experience in training or teaching in a university or tertiary institution environment.
