About the Role
The Administrative Assistant will support the effective functioning of the administrative and academic operations at the Meru Campus. This role involves a variety of administrative responsibilities, including minute-taking, documentation, and departmental support. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director, Meru Campus, and will be expected to provide timely, efficient, and professional administrative support in alignment with the university’s policies and values.
Job Description (Duties and Responsibilities)
As an Administrative Assistant, your core duties will include but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the implementation and coordination of various administrative functions within the department.
- Taking accurate and well-organized minutes during university committee meetings and ensuring timely dissemination of such records.
- Providing general support to the campus director and other senior administrative officers as required.
- Ensuring efficient record keeping and retrieval of departmental documents and correspondence.
- Coordinating internal and external communications on behalf of the office, including writing letters, memos, and handling inquiries.
- Supporting the preparation and organization of campus events, meetings, and activities.
- Maintaining confidentiality and upholding university policies and procedures in all assigned duties.
- Performing any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or campus director from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification pathways to be considered for the position:
Option 1:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of specialization.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience at Grade 7 within Mount Kenya University or in a similar position at a recognized academic institution.
Option 2:
- A Higher National Diploma in a relevant area of specialization.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience at Grade 7 within MKU or in a similar capacity in a recognized academic institution.
Option 3:
- A Diploma in a relevant area of specialization.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience at Grade 7 within MKU or in a comparable administrative role in a recognized academic institution.
