Job Overview
As a Tutorial Fellow in Social & Development Studies, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and advancing the University’s academic mission. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, student supervision, research, and community engagement. You will be part of a vibrant academic environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and scholarly growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
As a Tutorial Fellow, your primary duties will include:
- Curriculum Development: Participate actively in designing and reviewing curriculum to ensure it meets academic and industry standards.
- Content Preparation: Develop learning materials and ensure comprehensive coverage of the course content.
- Teaching and Lecturing: Deliver lectures for undergraduate, diploma, and certificate level students in Social and Development Studies.
- Examinations and Assessments: Set and invigilate examinations, administer assessments, and maintain academic records.
- Student Supervision: Guide and mentor students in their academic projects and participate in their proposal and thesis defense meetings.
- Research and Publication: Conduct research, publish scholarly work, and present findings at academic conferences.
- Research Funding: Initiate and manage research proposals to attract external funding and grants.
- Field Supervision: Organize and facilitate field trips, student internships, attachments, and community engagement activities.
- University Participation: Attend and contribute to official university meetings, academic boards, and faculty engagements.
- Attendance Monitoring: Track student attendance to ensure compliance with the minimum attendance requirements for exam eligibility.
- Administrative Duties: Carry out any other administrative responsibilities assigned by the department or university management.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Master of Arts (MA) in Sociology or Development Studies from a recognized and accredited university.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Development Studies, or a related field from a recognized and accredited university.
- A minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at a recognized institution.
- Be registered or registerable for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree.
- Membership or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).
