Job Purpose:

The Medical Claims Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely reconciliation, processing, and payment of BMI (Britam Managed Insurance) medical claims. This role is specifically aimed at reducing the existing claims backlog while upholding high standards of accuracy, policy compliance, and customer service. You will contribute to a critical project that directly impacts service quality and client satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Claims Backlog Clearance

  • Provide support in reconciling and signing off pending claims.
  • Ensure all claims meet accuracy standards and are in line with internal policy guidelines.
  • Work toward achieving the three-month backlog clearance target.

2. Claims Review and Processing

  • Assess and process both inpatient and outpatient medical claims.
  • Ensure all claims are handled in accordance with Britam’s policies, clinical guidelines, and documentation standards.
  • Maintain quality control to uphold standards in claim adjudication.

3. Customer and Provider Engagement

  • Act as a liaison between Britam and medical service providers to facilitate efficient care delivery.
  • Ensure that all services are rendered within the insured’s covered limits.
  • Handle client and provider expectations professionally, and address queries or concerns in a timely and empathetic manner.

4. Claims Compliance

  • Review claims and accompanying medical reports for clinical appropriateness and alignment with benefit entitlements.
  • Escalate non-compliant claims or discrepancies for further review when necessary.

5. Claims Verification and Audit

  • Conduct verification and internal audits of submitted claims.
  • Identify and flag fraudulent, erroneous, or misuse-related activities.
  • Recommend corrective actions and contribute to continuous process improvements.

6. Documentation Management

  • Track and follow up on all required documentation for claim processing.
  • Ensure all claims files are complete, accurate, and submitted within the defined turnaround time (TAT).
  • Support documentation validation and digital recordkeeping.

7. Reporting and Data Management

  • Maintain accurate records of all claims transactions.
  • Contribute to regular reporting, including preparing claims registers and performance summaries.
  • Assist in data analysis for better claims tracking and performance evaluation.

8. Delegated Authority

  • Operate strictly within the boundaries defined in the Delegated Authority Matrix.
  • Ensure compliance with governance protocols in claims handling and decision-making.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and medical claims management systems.
  • Organized, analytical, and proactive in resolving issues.
