The Maasai Mara Wildlife Conservancies Association (MMWCA) is a pioneering, community-based organization dedicated to conserving the Maasai Mara ecosystem through collaborative efforts with local communities, conservancies, landowners, tourism partners, and government institutions. Our mission is rooted in the belief that sustainable conservation efforts must benefit both people and wildlife.

In line with this mission, MMWCA is offering a series of internship opportunities for passionate and driven individuals who aspire to make a difference in the field of conservation, sustainable resource management, community development, and organizational operations.

These internships are designed to provide young professionals with practical experience, mentorship, and exposure to real-world challenges and solutions in the conservation and development sectors.

Available Internship Positions:

  1. Wildlife Management or Natural Resource Management – Intern
    This position offers the intern a chance to work closely with MMWCA’s conservation units in monitoring and safeguarding the wildlife and ecosystems of the greater Mara. Key responsibilities include conducting field surveys, assisting with wildlife population assessments, supporting ranger teams in law enforcement and conservation operations, and participating in data collection and reporting. The intern will also contribute to educational programs aimed at promoting biodiversity awareness among local communities.
  2. Resource Management – Intern
    The Resource Management Intern will engage in activities aimed at enhancing the sustainable use of natural resources across the conservancies. Duties include supporting the development of natural resource inventories, participating in ecosystem monitoring initiatives, and aiding in the preparation of conservation planning documents. The intern will also collaborate with field teams on land-use assessments and help develop strategies that align with sustainable environmental practices.
  3. Community Development – Intern
    This role involves active participation in the implementation and monitoring of community development initiatives. The intern will support projects that aim to enhance the social and economic well-being of local populations, such as education, health, and alternative livelihoods. Responsibilities include facilitating stakeholder engagement, documenting project progress, and contributing to the evaluation of community impact programs.
  4. Gender Studies – Intern
    The Gender Studies Intern will focus on promoting gender equity and social inclusion within MMWCA’s programs. The intern will assist in conducting gender-based research, organizing training sessions and workshops, and engaging with community groups to raise awareness on gender issues. This role will involve supporting the integration of gender considerations into conservation and community development policies.
  5. Finance or Economics – Intern
    This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in financial operations and economic analysis within a conservation-focused organization. The intern will assist in budgeting, financial reporting, and tracking expenditures. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the preparation of grant financial statements, conducting cost-benefit analyses of projects, and supporting audits and financial reviews.
  6. Procurement – Intern
    The Procurement Intern will help ensure that procurement activities are conducted efficiently and in compliance with organizational policies. Responsibilities include drafting purchase requisitions, assisting in supplier evaluation processes, maintaining procurement documentation, and supporting logistics and supply chain coordination. The intern will also gain exposure to contract management and procurement planning.
  7. Communications – Intern
    This role involves supporting the communications team in sharing MMWCA’s stories and achievements with the wider public. The intern will create and edit content for social media, newsletters, and websites; help document field activities through photography and videography; and assist in organizing public events and campaigns. The intern will also work closely with teams to collect success stories and impact highlights.
  8. Information Technology – Intern
    The IT Intern will be responsible for assisting with the maintenance and support of MMWCA’s IT infrastructure. Tasks include troubleshooting hardware and software issues, assisting with system upgrades, supporting network operations, and ensuring the implementation of cybersecurity measures. The intern will also contribute to the management of digital tools and platforms used by the organization.
  9. Human Resource Management – Intern
    The HR Intern will support various HR functions, including recruitment, employee onboarding, training, and performance management. The intern will assist in updating HR databases, preparing staff documentation, organizing HR events, and ensuring compliance with labor regulations. This position provides a comprehensive introduction to human resource practices within a mission-driven organization.
  10. Geographic Information System (GIS) – Intern
    The GIS Intern will play a crucial role in supporting spatial data management and analysis. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing spatial data, producing maps for planning and decision-making, and maintaining geospatial databases. The intern will also assist in training staff and community members in basic GIS techniques and contribute to conservation planning initiatives.
