Position Purpose

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be the principal executive and accounting officer of the health facility, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. The CEO will provide strategic leadership, oversee day-to-day operations, and ensure the hospital fulfills its mandate to deliver high-quality, affordable, and efficient healthcare services.

This role demands a results-oriented leader who is committed to operational excellence, financial sustainability, and healthcare quality improvement. As CEO, you will be at the forefront of guiding the hospital towards achieving its strategic goals and contributing meaningfully to Nairobi’s healthcare system.


Key Responsibilities

As a Chief Executive Officer, your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the hospital.
  • Formulate and implement strategic plans aligned with the goals of the Nairobi City County Government.
  • Guide and oversee policy implementation to ensure operational effectiveness.

Operational Management

  • Oversee the hospital’s daily operations, administration, and service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and organizational policies.
  • Maintain management systems that ensure efficiency and accountability.

Financial Management

  • Act as the hospital’s Accounting Officer, ensuring prudent use of resources.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the hospital’s budget in line with financial goals.
  • Mobilize resources from internal and external stakeholders including development partners.

Human Resource Oversight

  • Foster a performance-driven organizational culture.
  • Ensure effective implementation of HR policies and employee development programs.
  • Maintain a motivated and disciplined workforce aligned with institutional goals.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders including government agencies, healthcare professionals, donors, and the community.
  • Lead communication efforts both internally and externally to promote the hospital’s brand and strategic vision.

Healthcare Quality & Compliance

  • Drive initiatives aimed at healthcare quality assurance and improvement.
  • Steer the hospital towards achieving accreditations such as ISO certification and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA).
  • Oversee the implementation of patient-centered care systems and practices.

Other Responsibilities

  • Promote strong community relations and public trust.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of referral systems for specialized care.
  • Recommend strategic interventions and reforms to the Board of Directors.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Board.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline or a related field from a recognized university.
  • A Master’s degree in health administration/management, business administration, or a business-related field from a recognized university (an added advantage).
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in managing integrated healthcare systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, strategic planning, and healthcare operations.
  • Familiarity with healthcare quality management systems (an added advantage).
  • Previous experience in a similar leadership position is highly desirable.
