As the Regional Climate Resilience Advisor, you will serve as a cornerstone in our mission to mainstream climate resilience into all facets of Welthungerhilfe’s programming in the East & Southern Africa/MENA region. You will act as a technical expert, facilitator, and strategist, working closely with country offices, project teams, and headquarters to implement effective, sustainable solutions to climate-related challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Climate Resilience Mainstreaming:
Lead efforts to integrate climate resilience across WHH country portfolios in the East & Southern Africa/MENA region. Ensure alignment with WHH’s sustainability strategies and global frameworks. - Strategic Alignment & Technical Input:
Collaborate with the Sector Unit at WHH headquarters to develop and implement climate-related strategies and tools. Contribute to WHH’s global strategic project on “Systematizing Climate Resilience.” - Environmental & Climate Sensitivity Assessments:
Support Country Offices in conducting thorough assessments to inform project design, identify risks, and develop monitoring strategies using WHH’s recommended tools. - Project Support & Technical Expertise:
Provide hands-on technical input for project design, proposal development, and implementation. Assist project coordinators with climate-related projects, ensuring donor compliance and methodological soundness. - Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing:
Lead training, on-the-job coaching, and capacity-building initiatives for WHH teams and partners. Promote mutual learning and best practice exchange within the organization and beyond. - Advocacy & Strategic Positioning:
Represent WHH in regional forums, conferences, and dialogues. Drive the advocacy agenda for climate resilience and help position WHH as a leader in humanitarian and development sectors. - Donor Engagement & Resource Mobilization:
Identify and pursue funding opportunities, particularly in climate adaptation and resilience sectors. Build and sustain partnerships with public and private sector stakeholders. - Research & Analysis:
Conduct policy analysis, synthesize findings, and generate evidence-based recommendations for programme use and advocacy purposes.
Your Profile
You are a motivated and experienced professional who can navigate complex environments and bring innovative, sustainable solutions to climate challenges. You meet the following criteria:
- Significant professional experience (5–8 years) in climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, or related fields.
- Experience in the design and delivery of advocacy campaigns and capacity-building initiatives in the Global South.
- Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement, especially with private sector and government actors.
- A strong background in proposal development, especially in climate-related funding mechanisms.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills with fluency in English (French, German, or Arabic is an asset).
- Ability and willingness to travel within the region and receive vaccinations as per WHH’s project requirements.
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and committed to development and humanitarian goals.
