This initiative aims to foster multi-sectoral coordination and develop a centralized system to visualize and report Early Childhood Development indicators from various sectors, contributing to holistic development tracking.

To support this groundbreaking project, APHRC is recruiting Quantitative and Qualitative Field Interviewers who will be instrumental in collecting and interpreting data from community and county stakeholders.


Now Hiring: Field Interviewers for the ECD Data Visualization Platform Project

1. Quantitative Field Interviewers – Homa Bay & Isiolo Counties

Position Overview:

The Quantitative Field Interviewers will play a critical role in collecting accurate and comprehensive data that will feed into the centralized ECD platform. Your efforts will directly impact the development of an evidence-based framework to support children’s well-being across multiple sectors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mobilize study participants in accordance with the criteria outlined in the study guidelines.
  • Conduct face-to-face quantitative interviews using pre-set questionnaires and protocols.
  • Ensure that all data collected is complete, accurate, and confidential.
  • Edit and submit collected data daily for verification by the field team leader.
  • Complete daily reports and timesheets reliably and on time.
  • Participate in all required training sessions and progress review meetings.
  • Safeguard all tools and equipment used for data collection.
  • Support other project activities as directed by supervisors.
  • Fulfill additional tasks that align with the project’s broader goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C Plain or equivalent.
  • Fluency in English, Kiswahili, and one or more local languages (Rendile, Borana, Somali, Dholuo) – both spoken and written.
  • Familiarity with electronic data collection platforms such as SurveyCTO or Open Data Kit (ODK) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in field settings.
  • Must be a permanent resident of either Homa Bay or Isiolo County.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to adhere to study protocols and maintain ethical standards in data collection.
  • Prior experience in conducting quantitative interviews is essential.

2. Qualitative Field Interviewers – Homa Bay & Isiolo Counties

Position Overview:

The Qualitative Field Interviewers will facilitate in-depth discussions with stakeholders to gather nuanced insights that will enrich the data visualization platform. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to delve deep into complex issues related to ECD.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and moderate qualitative interviews with various stakeholders at both county and community levels.
  • Record all sessions accurately, take detailed notes, and prepare debriefing reports.
  • Engage in reflective debriefing sessions with the research team to analyze and contextualize interview findings.
  • Prepare and submit progress updates and field reports regularly.
  • Undertake any other project-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor or project manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development or a relevant discipline.
  • Proven experience in conducting qualitative interviews and focus group discussions.
  • Fluency in English, Kiswahili, and local languages (Rendile, Borana, Somali, Dholuo) – verbal and written.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to clarify translation issues and support linguistic accuracy during analysis.
  • Must be a permanent resident of either Homa Bay or Isiolo County.
