Job Purpose

The Regional Business Development Officer will be a key player in advancing Britam’s microinsurance presence across Western Nyanza and Rift Valley regions. The incumbent will be responsible for sourcing new business, managing stakeholder relationships, supporting sales activities, and expanding the organization’s market presence and product portfolio within the emerging consumer segments.

As the primary point of contact for regional growth initiatives, this role requires a highly driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will also be a collaborative partner who understands market dynamics and can translate strategic goals into tangible results.


Key Responsibilities

  • Market Expansion & Business Sourcing:
    Actively scout and secure microinsurance business opportunities throughout the Western Nyanza and Rift Valley regions, supporting Britam’s outreach to underserved markets.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management:
    Build and nurture strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, intermediaries, and strategic partners to sustain and expand business networks.
  • Market Intelligence & Analysis:
    Conduct both proactive and reactive market research and analysis to stay abreast of industry trends, customer needs, and competitor strategies. Use findings to inform business development approaches and retention strategies.
  • Product Development Support:
    Contribute to the ideation and development process of new microinsurance products by sharing market feedback and insights gained through customer interactions and regional activities.
  • Channel Incentive Management:
    Work closely with the central teams to ensure that sales incentives for distribution channels are calculated and processed correctly and promptly.
  • Sales Tools & Reporting:
    Ensure efficient utilization of approved sales tools and platforms to monitor performance, manage leads, and maintain visibility on channel growth.
  • Portfolio Diversification:
    Expand Britam’s microinsurance product offerings by aligning new and existing products with the protection and investment needs of diverse consumer segments.
  • Strategic Partnerships:
    Forge and maintain impactful partnerships with regional product delivery stakeholders to drive mutual growth and increase customer reach.
  • Cost Management:
    Monitor and control sales and operational costs to ensure sustainable business growth and profitability in assigned regions.
  • Credit and Compliance Adherence:
    Implement and uphold Britam’s credit policy across all transactions and interactions within the designated region.
  • Customer & Partner Retention:
    Strategize and implement effective customer and partner retention plans to meet or exceed business segment targets.
  • Additional Duties:
    Carry out any other responsibilities that may be delegated by the Head of SMEs & Alternate Channels or other leadership, as needed.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline.
  • Experience:
    Minimum of one year of experience in sales, preferably within the insurance or financial services sector, with a background in business development being an added advantage.
  • Professional Qualifications:
    While not mandatory, possession of professional insurance qualifications (ACII, AIIK) and COP (Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance) is considered a plus.

Location Details

This role is based in Kisii, Kenya, and covers both Western Nyanza and Rift Valley regions. The successful candidate will be expected to travel frequently within the assigned territories to fulfill business development responsibilities.


Contract & Employment Type

This is a 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract with the possibility of renewal based on performance and organizational needs. The role is a full-time day job, embedded within the organization’s strategic push to deepen its reach in the emerging markets space.
