Job Description

As a Security Officer at Mater Misericordiae Hospital, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of the hospital premises, personnel, patients, visitors, and assets. This multifaceted role involves active surveillance, incident response, investigation, enforcement of security protocols, and liaising with law enforcement where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Routine Surveillance & Patrols
    • Conduct regular patrols throughout the hospital premises to deter unauthorized activity and detect any potential security threats.
    • Observe and report unusual activities or situations that may compromise hospital security.
  • Access Control
    • Monitor all entry and exit points to ensure only authorized personnel access restricted or high-risk areas.
    • Implement and enforce ID badge and escort policies for contractors and visitors.
  • Monitoring & Reporting
    • Report safety hazards, faulty security systems, and breaches of policy to the Chief Security Officer.
    • Document security incidents with clear, factual, and timely reports.
    • Ensure accurate record-keeping in visitor logs and contractor entry logs.
  • Emergency Response
    • Respond swiftly and effectively to alarms, emergencies, and any security-related incidents.
    • Assist in emergency evacuations or lockdowns if necessary.
  • Investigations
    • Assist in preliminary investigations of security breaches or suspicious activities.
    • Preserve evidence, take witness statements, and submit detailed reports.
  • Coordination & Oversight
    • Supervise third-party security contractors, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and service standards.
    • Organize briefings, assign shifts, and coordinate handovers among contracted guards.
    • Evaluate the performance of outsourced security personnel.
  • System Oversight
    • Monitor and report malfunctions in surveillance systems and access control tools.
    • Follow up to ensure that repair and maintenance are conducted promptly.
  • Asset Protection
    • Monitor movement of hospital assets, medical supplies, and deliveries to prevent theft or unauthorized removal.
    • Conduct spot checks in sensitive areas such as stores, laboratories, finance, and pharmacy.
  • Risk Assessments
    • Participate in routine physical security risk assessments across hospital departments.
    • Identify vulnerabilities and suggest practical solutions to enhance safety.
  • Policy Compliance & Preventive Measures
    • Ensure full compliance with security policies and recommend preventive measures after security audits or breaches.
    • Maintain awareness of patient confidentiality protocols and ensure security practices align with privacy regulations.
  • Other Duties
    • Carry out any additional tasks assigned by the Chief Security Officer.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma in Criminology, Security Management, or other related field.
  • Previous experience in the military or police is an added advantage.
  • Basic training in first aid and emergency response is desirable.
  • At least two years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within reputable security firms or public institutions.
  • Solid understanding of healthcare privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
  • Strong observational skills, with an investigative mindset.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with electronic surveillance systems and access control technologies.
  • Familiarity with hospital operations and the importance of patient confidentiality.
