Overview of the Role

As the Restaurant Supervisor, you will be instrumental in supporting the Operations Manager with the seamless delivery of food and beverage services during special functions and in the university’s training restaurants. Your role is multifaceted, encompassing team leadership, customer service excellence, operational efficiency, and financial oversight.

This is a hands-on supervisory position, ideal for someone who thrives in a busy, structured environment and is passionate about training the next generation of hospitality professionals while maintaining high service standards.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Staff Management

  • Supervision and Coordination: Oversee daily operations by managing restaurant staff including servers and stewards.
  • Scheduling and Task Allocation: Create and manage shift rosters, ensuring adequate coverage during peak and off-peak hours.
  • Training and Onboarding: Train new staff on restaurant policies, procedures, and service expectations.
  • Performance Monitoring: Evaluate staff performance regularly, provide constructive feedback, and assist with performance reviews.

2. Customer Service

  • Service Oversight: Ensure all guests receive prompt and high-quality service.
  • Customer Engagement: Personally greet and interact with customers to enhance the overall dining experience.
  • Handling Complaints: Address complaints professionally and promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Special Requests: Accommodate customer needs, including dietary restrictions and allergy considerations.

3. Operations Management

  • Daily Oversight: Ensure smooth daily operations related to food and beverage service.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor inventory levels and coordinate timely ordering of food, beverages, and supplies.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce hygiene, health, and safety standards.
  • Restaurant Inspections: Conduct regular checks to ensure cleanliness and operational organization.

4. Financial Management

  • Budget Support: Assist in maintaining the restaurant’s budget and work to control costs.
  • Revenue Monitoring: Track sales and prepare financial reports for management review.

5. Quality Control

  • Standard Compliance: Guarantee that all food and beverages meet the university’s quality standards.
  • Consistency Assurance: Oversee portion sizes and food presentation to maintain brand consistency.
  • Issue Resolution: Act swiftly to resolve issues relating to food quality or preparation.

6. Event Coordination

  • Event Planning: Organize and manage special functions, private events, and catering services.
  • Event Documentation: Record event details in the university system to aid in financial reconciliation.
  • Menu Customization: Collaborate with clients to tailor event menus and ensure smooth execution.

7. Marketing and Promotion

  • Customer Retention: Assist in developing strategies to attract and retain customers.
  • Promotional Campaigns: Support the promotion of special offers, menus, and events to boost engagement.

8. Record Keeping

  • Operational Documentation: Maintain accurate records of daily sales, inventory movement, employee assessments, and customer feedback.
  • Management Reporting: Compile reports to highlight performance trends and areas needing improvement.

Minimum Academic Qualifications

  • Diploma in Food Production, Food and Beverage, or related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • A professional leadership certification is an added advantage.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a busy hospitality environment.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role, managing food and beverage service operations.
