Job Description

As an intern, you will be a key part of the Somalia team at the Dutch Embassy in Nairobi. You will assist in research, policy analysis, and coordination related to the Netherlands’ efforts in Somalia. This includes peacebuilding initiatives, development cooperation programs, and diplomatic engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Policy Research and Analysis:
    Conduct in-depth research on political, economic, and social developments in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa. Analyze and summarize reports, briefings, and scholarly publications to support strategic decision-making.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    Assist in drafting internal and external reports, including situation reports, policy briefs, and background documents for meetings and events. Support the team in the preparation of official communications and documentation.
  • Meeting and Event Support:
    Attend and contribute to internal and external meetings, workshops, and conferences. Take minutes, prepare briefing materials, and support logistical arrangements where required.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    Help coordinate with local, regional, and international partners, including other embassies, NGOs, UN agencies, and civil society organizations. Maintain updated contact lists and assist in communication tasks.
  • Administrative Assistance:
    Provide administrative support to the Somalia team as necessary. This may include organizing files, scheduling appointments, and assisting in project coordination tasks.
