The internships offer meaningful exposure, technical guidance, and a platform for career development in one of Kenya’s most significant infrastructure institutions.

Internship Opportunities and Job Descriptions
1. Geomaticist – Internship [HR/INT/GDD/03/2025]
The Geomaticist intern will assist in geospatial analysis and data management activities within the Geothermal Development Department. Key responsibilities will include participating in topographic mapping, Geographic Information System (GIS) data processing, and fieldwork involving GPS and total station surveys. The intern will also support the integration of spatial data into geothermal exploration models, update base maps, and contribute to the management of spatial databases critical to geothermal site development and infrastructure planning.
2. Supply Chain Officer – Internship [HR/INT/SCM/01/2025]
The intern will work closely with the Supply Chain Management team to support procurement processes, inventory control, vendor relations, and logistics management. The position involves assisting in the preparation of procurement plans, tender documents, and bid evaluations. Additional duties include maintaining procurement records, updating supplier databases, supporting contract administration, and ensuring compliance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act and related regulations.
3. Security Officer – Internship [HR/INT/SEC/01/2025]
The Security Officer intern will be attached to KenGen’s security operations unit and will be responsible for assisting in maintaining safety protocols across the company’s installations. Tasks include supporting the implementation of physical security measures, monitoring access control systems, helping prepare security incident reports, and assisting in the coordination of emergency response drills. The intern will also support surveillance operations and contribute to updating security documentation and operational logs.
4. Property Officer – Internship [HR/INT/CORPS/05/2025]
The Property Officer intern will support the management of KenGen’s real estate and property assets. Responsibilities include conducting property records audits, assisting in lease administration, participating in land and building inspections, and helping with the compilation of property valuation reports. The intern will also engage in document filing and legal compliance tracking related to the company’s extensive property portfolio.
5. Plant Operator (KIHBT) – Internship [HR/INT/OPS/05/2025]
This internship is ideal for candidates trained at the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT). Interns will provide support to senior plant operators in monitoring generation equipment, logging operational data, and ensuring compliance with plant operation standards. The intern will also assist in identifying operational anomalies, supporting shutdown/start-up procedures, and performing daily equipment inspections under supervision.
6. Mechanical Technician – Internship [HR/INT/OPS/04/2025]
Mechanical Technician interns will be attached to KenGen’s mechanical engineering and maintenance units. They will help perform equipment diagnostics, participate in planned preventive maintenance, assist in repairs of turbines, pumps, valves, and auxiliary systems, and ensure timely documentation of mechanical faults and interventions. They will also support the team in implementing safety measures during technical operations.
7. Mechanical Engineer – Internship [HR/INT/OPS/03/2025]
This internship offers an opportunity to gain practical exposure in mechanical engineering design, plant maintenance strategies, project management, and performance optimization. Interns will support the development of technical specifications, assist in mechanical system inspections, contribute to energy efficiency audits, and prepare engineering reports and drawings using software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
8. Legal Officer – Internship [HR/INT/CS&LS/01/2025]
The Legal Officer intern will provide support in legal research, contract review, and litigation support. Responsibilities include assisting with the preparation of legal opinions, case file management, legal compliance audits, drafting standard agreements, and supporting corporate governance functions. The intern will also have the opportunity to observe board secretarial functions and attend stakeholder consultations on regulatory matters.
9. Knowledge Officer – Internship [HR/INT/BDS/02/2025]
The Knowledge Officer intern will be involved in managing internal knowledge repositories, curating best practices, and supporting organizational learning initiatives. Tasks include maintaining knowledge-sharing platforms, developing learning resources, supporting the implementation of innovation initiatives, and documenting success stories across departments for future reference and benchmarking.
10. Insurance Officer – Internship [HR/INT/COMSV/03/2025]
Interns will assist in insurance policy administration, claims processing, premium payment coordination, and updating insurance databases. They will also help prepare incident reports, liaise with insurance providers on outstanding claims, and support internal audits related to insurance compliance and risk coverage for KenGen’s assets.
11. ICT Officer – Internship [HR/INT/ICT/01/2025]
The ICT Officer intern will support various technology-driven functions including troubleshooting of computer hardware and software, network support, systems backup, user training, and updating IT inventory records. They may also assist in coding, website updates, cybersecurity monitoring, and participating in system development projects.
12. Hydrologist – Internship [HR/INT/BDS/01/2025]
Hydrology interns will be tasked with assisting in hydrological modeling, data collection from weather and river flow stations, and supporting forecast models for hydro energy production. Duties include maintaining data loggers, conducting site visits for sample collection, compiling historical flow data, and preparing hydrological impact assessments to support energy planning.
13. Human Resource Officer – Internship [HR/INT/CORPS/04/2025]
The Human Resource Officer intern will provide support in areas such as staffing, employee relations, training coordination, and performance management. Duties include updating HR databases, assisting in the recruitment process, organizing induction sessions, preparing training schedules, and supporting staff engagement activities and exit management.
14. Human Resource Assistant – Internship [HR/INT/COPSV/03/2025]
Human Resource Assistant interns will handle administrative functions such as record keeping, leave tracking, supporting wellness programs, and assisting with organizing HR events. They will also help manage employee file systems, respond to routine staff inquiries, and contribute to the digitization of HR processes.
15. Geophysicist – Internship [HR/INT/GDD/04/2025]
The Geophysicist intern will assist in data acquisition and interpretation for subsurface exploration. Tasks include processing resistivity, seismic, and gravity data to aid in geothermal resource characterization. They will also participate in the deployment of survey equipment, perform geophysical modeling, and help document geophysical survey results.
16. Geologist – Internship [HR/INT/GDD/02/2025]
The Geologist intern will support geological mapping, sample logging, and mineralogical analysis in geothermal development. Tasks will include assisting in the supervision of drilling operations, monitoring stratigraphic sections, preparing geological maps, and contributing to the development of geothermal resource assessment reports.
17. Geochemist – Internship [HR/INT/GDD/01/2025]
The Geochemist intern will be attached to the laboratory and field teams involved in chemical analysis of geothermal fluids. Duties include sample collection, preparation of chemical profiles, tracking environmental parameters, and supporting data input into geothermal modeling platforms. Exposure will include participation in tracer studies and environmental impact assessments.
18. Environment Officer – Internship [HR/INT/COMSV/02/2025]
Interns in this role will support compliance monitoring, environmental assessments, and environmental management system (EMS) audits. Activities include assisting in report writing, collecting data for emissions and waste tracking, supporting biodiversity protection efforts, and organizing community awareness programs on environmental conservation.
19. Electrical Technician – Internship [HR/INT/OPS/02/2025]
Electrical Technician interns will assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems in power plants. Tasks include supporting inspections, assisting in electrical fault diagnosis, participating in preventive maintenance routines, and helping with the calibration of instruments and devices under guidance from senior technicians.
20. Electrical Engineer – Internship [HR/INT/OPS/01/2025]
Interns will support power system analysis, technical drawings preparation, project implementation oversight, and energy audits. Assignments include transformer maintenance, switchgear testing, relay coordination studies, and assisting in substation design and commissioning projects.
21. Economist – Internship [HR/INT/COMSV/01/2025]
Economist interns will assist in economic modeling, policy impact analysis, tariff assessments, and data interpretation for energy projects. Responsibilities include researching macroeconomic trends, compiling sectoral data, assisting in cost-benefit evaluations, and supporting budget formulation processes.
22. Community Relations Officer – Internship [HR/INT/CSERV/02/2025]
Interns will support stakeholder engagement, community mobilization, grievance redress activities, and documentation of community development initiatives. They will also assist in preparing CSR reports, supporting field assessments, and tracking social performance indicators in project areas.
23. Civil Engineer – Internship [HR/INT/GDD/05/2025]
The Civil Engineer intern will assist in the design, supervision, and maintenance of civil infrastructure such as dams, roads, and geothermal well pads. Tasks include drafting structural drawings, site inspections, quantity surveying, and contributing to feasibility studies for new construction projects.
24. Administration Officer – Internship [HR/INT/CSERV/01/2025]
The Administration Officer intern will be responsible for supporting administrative and logistical functions including document control, asset tracking, coordination of office services, and assisting in procurement requests for administrative supplies.
25. Accountant – Internship [HR/INT/FIN/01/2025]
The intern will assist in preparing financial records, processing payments, conducting bank reconciliations, and participating in financial audits. Duties include preparing journals, assisting in financial data analysis, and maintaining compliance with financial reporting standards.
