Open Position: Senior Actuarial Analyst
Reporting to: Assistant Manager – Actuarial
Location: Head Office, Nairobi, Kenya
Department: Actuarial Department
Role Purpose
As a Senior Actuarial Analyst, you will play a vital role in supporting the development and financial performance of Jubilee’s health insurance products. You will be responsible for performing advanced actuarial modelling, data analytics, pricing, and business intelligence tasks. Additionally, you will contribute to regulatory compliance and assist with the continuous improvement of actuarial processes.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
- Contribute to the design and review of health insurance products including benefit structures and pricing strategies.
- Perform claims experience analyses to identify medical trends and suggest pricing adjustments.
- Build and enhance actuarial pricing models aligned with the company’s strategic goals and risk appetite.
- Generate data-driven insights to support decisions on pricing and product offerings.
Operational Duties
- Work collaboratively with Operations and Business Development teams to price and manage corporate schemes.
- Deliver actionable insights through comprehensive data analysis to guide company strategy.
- Support the automation and optimization of actuarial processes and models.
- Mentor junior actuarial team members and guide actuarial interns through professional development.
Corporate Governance
- Ensure compliance with the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) guidelines, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Assist in audit processes (internal and external) by providing actuarial documentation and analytical support.
- Maintain robust documentation on assumptions, models, and methodologies used in actuarial work.
Leadership and Culture
- Work closely with cross-functional departments including Underwriting, Claims, Finance, IT, and Business Development.
- Present actuarial findings and reports to internal stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
- Advocate for data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement within the actuarial team.
- Promote a work environment built on collaboration, ethical standards, and professional excellence.
- Demonstrate and uphold high standards of integrity and service excellence in all duties.
Compliance and Legal Responsibility
- Stay informed on applicable external laws and regulations such as:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML)
- Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT)
- Data Protection and other relevant regulatory frameworks
- Implement and enforce company policies and procedures in alignment with legal standards.
- Help build and maintain effective compliance programs within the actuarial department.
- Encourage ethical conduct, open communication, and proactive identification of compliance issues.
Key Skills and Competencies
We are looking for candidates with a unique blend of technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills. The ideal Senior Actuarial Analyst will possess the following:
- Advanced capability in developing and applying complex actuarial models for pricing, reserving, and forecasting.
- Strong statistical proficiency in analyzing large health datasets to derive actionable insights.
- Practical experience in designing and pricing innovative and sustainable health insurance products.
- In-depth understanding of insurance and medical claims data, enabling precise cost projections and trend analysis.
- Proficiency in creating tools to assess underwriting and operational risks and to ensure compliance with solvency requirements.
- Skilled in building user-friendly actuarial dashboards and reports for executive decision-making.
- Experience with automation and system integration to enhance actuarial workflow accuracy and efficiency.
- Ability to maintain clear and thorough documentation for internal audits and regulatory reviews.
Academic and Professional Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science.
- Progress towards professional actuarial qualifications (e.g., 4–6 exams with SOA, IFoA, or any other internationally recognized actuarial body).
- A minimum of four (4) years of actuarial experience in the health/medical insurance sector.
- Proven experience in pricing and product development within a regulated insurance environment.
