Job Purpose
The Data Manager will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing Optiven’s data strategy. This role ensures the company utilizes data as a strategic asset, maintaining data integrity, governance, and security while providing valuable insights to support critical business decisions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Data Policy Development
- Design and implement data strategies and policies in alignment with organizational objectives.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements such as the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019), GDPR, DPA, and ISO 27001.
- Data Governance and Security
- Oversee data governance practices to uphold data quality, integrity, and accessibility.
- Conduct regular data audits, enforce role-based access controls, and implement robust security measures.
- Monitor data security threats and propose appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Data Infrastructure and Architecture
- Manage data infrastructure to ensure reliable storage, organization, and retrieval systems.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement advanced data management systems to improve functionality.
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Conduct in-depth data analysis to extract insights, trends, and forecasts that inform strategic planning.
- Develop and maintain business intelligence dashboards and generate quarterly data reviews for management.
- Use AI-powered forecasting and predictive modeling tools to inform key business decisions.
- Performance Metrics and Continuous Improvement
- Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and improve data initiatives.
- Review and refine data processes to eliminate inefficiencies and enhance productivity.
- Innovation and Automation
- Deploy innovative techniques to elevate data analysis and reporting.
- Drive data automation to streamline operations and reduce manual processing.
- Team Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead, train, and mentor a data science team to maintain high standards of data accuracy and integrity.
- Assign responsibilities, monitor task progress, and provide support to ensure successful project execution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data alignment with business needs.
- Other Responsibilities
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by management.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking an individual who is analytical, innovative, and a proactive problem solver. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A solid background in data science, analytics, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience, especially in guiding data teams.
- Practical knowledge in implementing secure data systems and complying with data protection laws.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex data into actionable business intelligence.
- Proficiency in industry-standard data tools, platforms, and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, Tableau, R, Power BI).
- Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Hands-on experience with AI, cloud services, and predictive analytics tools is highly desirable.
