1,000 Paid Internship Opportunities Open At Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education, through the State Department for Basic Education, is pleased to invite applications from qualified and passionate graduates for 1,000 internship positions under the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP), now entering its fourth cohort. This programme is part of the government’s ongoing commitment to leverage technology for effective teaching and learning in Kenya’s primary schools.

Interns will be strategically deployed to Sub County Education Offices and schools across the country, where they will support the development, implementation, and expansion of digital learning systems. The internship offers a practical platform for graduates to participate in national transformation by contributing to the enhancement of digital education, while gaining valuable professional experience.

This initiative aligns with Kenya Vision 2030, the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and the government’s efforts to strengthen 21st-century skills among learners in the basic education sector.

Programme Overview

The Digital Literacy Programme internship aims to enhance the delivery of ICT integration in primary education and strengthen e-learning efforts through capacity building, infrastructure support, and user engagement in public schools. Interns will assist in the rollout of digital learning tools, train educators, support system infrastructure, and contribute to innovation in the education sector.

Each intern will be posted to a Sub County Office and will work directly with educational stakeholders, including headteachers, ICT champions, curriculum support officers, and County Education Directors, ensuring that digital tools are effectively used in teaching and learning environments.

Duration of Internship

  • The internship will run for a non-renewable period of twelve (12) months.

Stipend

  • Interns will receive a stipend from the State Department, determined by the Government of Kenya.

Certification

  • A certificate of completion will be awarded by the State Department for Basic Education upon successful completion of the internship programme.

Internship Duties and Responsibilities

The interns will be expected to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:

i. Support of E-learning and content development in line with the schemes of work;

ii. Providing class support and training of Primary School teachers in the use of digital literacy devices;

iii. Supporting implementation of the Digital Learning Programme;

iv. Carrying out innovations to enable schools to improve on the use of digital learning;

v. Providing support in the safe, secure and ethical use of technology in learning;

vi. Assisting teachers by integrating ICT in delivery of teaching, learning and assessment;

vii. Supporting learning through development and production of key school policies and procedures; and

viii. Providing support in the use, support and maintenance of ICT services in the schools.

Requirements for Appointment

To qualify for this internship opportunity, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational Qualifications
    • Be a graduate with:
      • A Bachelor’s degree or
      • A Diploma
  2. Skills and Attributes
  • Show capacity for research, problem-solving, and innovation
  • Be able to work in teams and independently in various learning environments.
  • Be willing to be deployed to any Sub County Education Office across Kenya and serve on a full-time basis.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interns recruited under the Digital Literacy Programme will undertake a wide array of roles in supporting Kenya’s digital education agenda. These duties will not only enrich the interns’ professional growth but also serve to reinforce digital transformation in schools.

This comprehensive set of duties provides interns with real-world experience in digital education delivery while enhancing their technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. It also prepares them for future roles in ICT integration, education technology consulting, or public sector digital transformation initiatives.


Deployment of Interns

  • Successful applicants will be deployed to Sub County Education Offices, from where they will serve in public primary schools under supervision and coordination from Ministry officials.
  • Interns must be prepared to work in rural, peri-urban, or underserved areas as needed.
  • Deployment decisions will be based on the Ministry’s needs and equitable distribution across the country.
