Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial information to aid in management planning and decision-making. The successful candidate will take charge of reporting and treasury functions and play a central role in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s financial systems and compliance processes.

Role Overview
The Senior Accountant is expected to oversee financial reporting, cash flow management, reinsurance accounting, and compliance matters. This role involves significant interaction with the ICT department, external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies to ensure the financial health of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the management and improvement of the company’s full financial accounting, monitoring, and reporting systems.
- Manage the treasury function, including cash flow planning and execution, to meet day-to-day operational needs.
- Perform monthly reinsurance reconciliations, ensure proper sign-offs with reinsurers, and enhance timely collections.
- Develop, review, and refine financial operating policies, SOPs, and internal control systems such as checklists and reconciliations.
- Lead the technical implementation of new and existing accounting standards.
- Collaborate with the ICT department to ensure system integrity and accurate output from financial systems.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including those from IRA, KRA, UFAA, and other relevant authorities.
- Act as a risk champion within the finance department and liaise between finance and risk/compliance functions.
- Coordinate and support the annual budgeting process in conjunction with department heads.
- Supervise expenditure processes to ensure budgetary compliance and fiscal discipline.
- Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with key business partners, such as suppliers, banks, auditors, and regulators.
- Assist in preparing Board papers and provide timely and accurate financial and compliance advice to management.
- Facilitate timely audits and coordinate with auditors, actuaries, and tax consultants to finalize statutory accounts.
- Continuously identify and apply best practices across reporting, compliance, and treasury activities.
- Perform any other finance-related duties as required to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline from a recognized institution.
Professional Qualifications
- CPA (K), ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
Experience
- Minimum of six (6) years of relevant work experience.
- Insurance industry experience is a MUST.
