Purpose of the Job

To provide actuarial consultancy and related services that support the strategic objectives and operational excellence of the company.


Key Responsibilities

I. Operational Responsibilities

As an Actuarial Consultant, your primary duties will include:

  • Conducting actuarial valuations for pension schemes and insurance companies.
  • Developing, pricing, and reviewing insurance products in line with market demands.
  • Optimizing reinsurance programs for insurance sector clients to improve risk management.
  • Preparing Investment Policy Statements (IPS) tailored to client investment goals and risk tolerance.
  • Creating and delivering high-quality actuarial reports and client presentations.
  • Designing strategic plans to support the long-term sustainability of pension schemes.
  • Establishing and managing Income Drawdown and Post-Retirement Medical Funds for various schemes.
  • Supporting pension scheme governance, including RFP preparation, service provider evaluation, and selection reporting.
  • Projecting healthcare costs and analyzing the financial impact of proposed medical benefits for corporate clients.
  • Reviewing benefit statements and validating benefit calculations for Defined Benefit (DB) schemes.
  • Calculating projected retirement and related benefits for Defined Contribution (DC) schemes.
  • Compiling internal actuarial reports to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Validating actuarial data sets for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.

II. Business Development

In this function, you will be responsible for:

  • Driving business growth in alignment with set annual budgets and revenue targets.
  • Maintaining a credible and effective sales pipeline through client engagement and proactive outreach.
  • Developing high-quality proposals and client presentations in response to RFPs and RFQs.
  • Following up on business development leads and opportunities to ensure successful conversion into active business.

III. Credit Control

The role also involves aspects of financial administration, including:

  • Ensuring timely and accurate invoicing in accordance with company policies and contractual obligations.
  • Monitoring and following up on outstanding payments to ensure collections are made within company timelines.

IV. Other Duties

  • Carrying out any additional responsibilities or assignments delegated by the line manager to support departmental and organizational goals.

  • Revenue generation aligned with budgetary targets.
  • Timely and high-quality delivery of client and internal projects.
  • Consistent production of accurate actuarial valuations and reports.
  • Superior client service and stakeholder engagement.
  • Effective and timely debt collection within the stipulated 60-day timeframe.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities for effective client and team interaction.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines without compromising quality.

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Advanced proficiency in actuarial software, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
  • High level of attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
  • Exceptional report writing and presentation delivery skills tailored to diverse audiences.

Professional and Academic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a business-related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Commerce, or related disciplines.
  • Fellowship with the Actuarial Society of Kenya or another internationally recognized actuarial body.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in actuarial consulting or a similar professional capacity.
