The Vital Landscapes pillar focuses on revitalizing and protecting landscapes through four programmatic areas: Food, Restoration, Water, and Forests. It aims to catalyze comprehensive transformation of African food systems to ensure sustainability, resilience, and environmental integrity while securing human health and well-being.

To support this mission, WRI Africa is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join its team through the following consultancy:


Consultancy Opportunity: Development Partners Database Management and Engagement Coordination Consultant

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Reports to: Africa Director: Food, Land & Water
Start Date: 23rd June 2025
Duration: Until 30th September 2025
Level of Effort: Estimated 10-15 days per month

Assignment Overview

WRI Africa is looking for a consultant to strengthen its resource mobilization strategy by developing and maintaining a dynamic development partners database. The ideal consultant will be instrumental in ensuring accurate data management, facilitating strategic donor engagement, and enhancing proposal development for the Food, Land, and Water programs.

This role is essential in supporting decision-making, engagement planning, and timely proposal submissions. The consultant will collaborate closely with program leads and the Africa Development Team to ensure donor engagement is well-coordinated and strategically aligned with WRI Africa’s mission.


Key Responsibilities

1. Donor Research and Data Management

  • Develop, manage, and regularly update a funding pipeline database specific to Food, Land, and Water programs.
  • Map potential development partners and align their priorities with WRI’s strategic focus areas.
  • Support development partner engagement planning and document follow-ups for ongoing and new relationships.
  • Conduct donor research to gather insights on funding requirements, cycles, and priorities across the three workstreams.
  • Collaborate with the Africa Development Team to ensure consistency and accuracy in donor information across WRI systems.
  • Leverage data visualization and database tools to capture, organize, and present funding data for internal use.
  • Prepare briefs, take notes, and document action points during development partner meetings.
  • Consolidate proposal-related information and maintain organized filing within internal shared systems.

2. Proposal Development Coordination

  • Support the scheduling and coordination of proposal development planning with relevant technical, budget, and finance teams.
  • Lead coordination of large proposal reviews (LPRs), ensuring participation from technical and financial teams.
  • Contribute to the preparation and refinement of proposals and related materials.
  • Maintain a proposal tracking system and provide timely updates on submission status, deadlines, and outcomes.

3. Reporting and Strategic Insight

  • Generate periodic donor engagement reports and trend analyses to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Provide weekly summaries of upcoming engagements and key activities.
  • Contribute to the creation of strategic engagement plans and maintain a living fundraising calendar.
  • Offer actionable insights from donor data to enhance program alignment and improve fundraising outcomes.

Expected Deliverables

  • A fully functional and regularly updated development partner database specific to Food, Land, and Water programs.
  • Weekly engagement summaries and follow-up action points.
  • Monthly update reports with strategic insights, donor information, and coordination progress.
  • Contributions to engagement plans and fundraising calendars to inform strategic donor approaches.
