About the Role
This role will be responsible for monitoring and evaluation initiatives within Tupande, both new and established, and will provide accountability and ensure efficiency of MEL projects. The MEL PS will establish, modify and monitor key performance indicators to report and record physical progress for specific projects. You will also create, run, and analyze data collection projects. This role is based in Kakamega, Kenya.
Responsibilities
- Oversee data collection though qualitative and quantitative methods.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in data collection processes and suggest and implement improvements
- Report on data quality the weekly and monthly.
- Directly manage the MEL Field and Data Teams.
- Articulate the activities to the team to ensure delivery of results based on short/medium term department goals.
- Is responsible for team growth through creation of development plans/promotion plans for their direct reports, with support from manager
- May support in identifying staffing needs for department including professional development.
- Design research tools such as surveys and write analysis plans with manager support.
- Support with data cleaning and analysis in Stata or R including using statistics to present meaningful findings to stakeholders.
- Contribute to content development of all aspects of MEL Field Team operations including training development, survey design and results presentations.

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- Two years minimum practical experience working on data collection in a rural setting.
- Have a graduate degree in statistics, economics, or any other relevant field of study with strong grounding in quantitative and qualitative research (masters in any of these fields is an added advantage).
- Understanding of best practices in experimental design concepts, such as control group selection and randomisation.
- Demonstrated leadership experience at work, or outside of work and enthusiasm for learning.
- Conduct analysis using statistics, logic, and validation formulae.
- Practical experience creating surveys tools for field data collection and managing a field based research team.
- Experience in teaching/mentoring others to support their professional development.
- Knowledge of electronic data collection platforms (e.g. ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare).
- Preferably experience with statistical software packages such as Stata, or R.
- Fluency in Microsoft excel (can perform complex functions).
- Languages: English (required), Swahili preferred.
