About the Role: Regional Climate Resilience Advisor

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Contract Duration: One year, with strong prospects for extension
Job Type: Full-Time

In this critical advisory position, you will play a pivotal role in integrating climate resilience into the operations and strategy of Welthungerhilfe’s regional and country programs within the East & Southern Africa/MENA regions. The successful candidate will be a central support figure, providing technical input, capacity building, and backstopping to ensure climate resilience is mainstreamed across all project activities.

You will collaborate closely with the Sector Unit at our Bonn headquarters and contribute to implementing WHH’s strategic climate resilience objectives, while positioning WHH as a respected and active development and humanitarian actor in this domain.


Key Responsibilities

  • Mainstreaming Climate Resilience
    Lead the integration of climate resilience strategies into ongoing and future projects across countries in the East & Southern Africa/MENA regional portfolio.
  • Strategic Implementation
    Work closely with WHH’s Sector Unit to advance technical inputs, tools, and frameworks that support the implementation of the organization’s “Systematizing Climate Resilience” strategic initiative.
  • Environmental and Climate Sensitivity Assessments
    Support Country Offices in conducting assessments as part of project design, implementation, and monitoring to manage climate and environmental risks.
  • Technical Advisory on Projects
    Provide targeted technical expertise to adapt or enhance existing project designs with suitable climate resilience measures and ensure alignment with donor expectations and WHH’s internal requirements.
  • Proposal Development and Review
    Contribute expert guidance in the development and review of climate resilience-related project proposals, ensuring relevance, methodological robustness, and compliance.
  • Capacity Building
    Build capacities of WHH staff and implementing partners through training workshops, on-the-job coaching, and identifying further learning opportunities at regional level.
  • Knowledge Sharing and Networking
    Actively contribute to WHH’s internal knowledge-sharing platforms. Facilitate regional and global knowledge exchange, identify and disseminate best practices, and feed into headquarters’ knowledge systems.
  • Advocacy and Strategic Positioning
    Represent WHH in relevant regional and international forums, conferences, and networks. Engage in advocacy to position WHH as a key player in climate resilience work.
  • Resource Mobilization
    Identify new funding opportunities and establish partnerships with public, private, and multilateral actors. Support the acquisition of climate resilience funding in coordination with relevant departments.
  • Policy Analysis and Guidance
    Conduct policy reviews and prepare briefing documents to support informed program design and advocacy efforts.

What We Are Looking For

  • Significant professional experience (5–8 years) in climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, climate mitigation, or related development fields.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing training, advocacy, and learning programs in the Global South.
  • Skilled in facilitating stakeholder collaboration, particularly with government and private sector actors.
  • Demonstrated success in writing and acquiring project proposals for climate-related initiatives.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness and capacity to work in diverse and sometimes challenging contexts.
  • Excellent English language skills; French, German, or Arabic is an asset.
  • Familiarity with data-informed programming and an interest in applying digital tools for climate analysis and program design.
