Established in 2018, Community Land Action Now! (CLAN!) is a dynamic and loosely structured network comprising Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and community-based organizations (CBOs) in Kenya. The network is dedicated to addressing issues related to land tenure and sustainable natural resource management, with a primary focus on securing formal recognition of community land rights, in line with the Community Land Act No. 27 of 2016.
CLAN! fosters collaboration through knowledge sharing and mutual support among its members. It empowers indigenous and local communities to defend their land, preserve their cultural heritage, and advance climate-resilient development.
Since its formation, CLAN! has grown significantly—from a handful of founding members to a robust and diverse network of 85 members. This includes 54 indigenous communities and 31 NGOs and CBOs, spread across 21 counties in Kenya.
As an informal and unregistered network, CLAN! operates through grant holder organizations selected from within its membership. These organizations are entrusted with managing project funds and operate under formal Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) that clearly define their financial management and accountability roles.
Currently, the Chepkitale Indigenous People Development Project (CIPDP)—a registered Kenyan NGO based in Kitale—serves as the grant holder for the CLAN! network.
