About the Role
The Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) will act as a strategic advisor and consultant to assigned departments, collaborating closely with managers and the Chief People & Culture Officer to deliver HR solutions that are aligned with organizational priorities. This role focuses on talent management, employee engagement, organizational culture, workforce planning, and HR operational excellence.
The HRBP will play a leading role in creating a workplace environment that promotes innovation, service excellence, accountability, and continuous learning while upholding the hospital’s core values. Working across various hospital units and satellite clinics, the HRBP will help embed a people-first philosophy into all HR practices and organizational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
The HRBP will undertake a wide range of strategic and operational duties including, but not limited to:
- Strategic HR Advisory:
Serve as the primary HR contact for designated departments, offering expert advice and support to managers and team leads on HR matters including workforce planning, performance improvement, and conflict resolution. - HR Alignment with Business Goals:
Work with departmental heads to align HR activities and frameworks with hospital priorities, ensuring HR delivers measurable value to operations. - Employee Engagement & Experience:
Lead the implementation of staff engagement programs including town hall sessions, feedback channels, employee recognition events, and pulse surveys. Use insights from engagement activities to build action plans aimed at improving morale and retention. - Talent Development & Succession Planning:
Support the Chief People & Culture Officer in identifying skill and leadership gaps, and roll out interventions such as coaching, mentoring, and structured learning programs to support internal talent growth and succession. - Performance Management Support:
Embed a performance-driven culture by guiding departments in the use of appraisal systems, continuous feedback, and individual development plans. - Culture Building & Change Management:
Partner with leaders in driving culture transformation initiatives that reflect hospital values and support behaviors aligned with compassion, respect, innovation, and collaboration. - Workforce Risk & Compliance:
Monitor compliance with employment laws and HR policies through audits and proactive reporting. Ensure labor law alignment and manage employee relations with fairness and consistency. - Data-Driven HR Operations:
Utilize HR information systems and analytics to track performance metrics, absenteeism, turnover, and training ROI. Generate regular reports to inform strategy and decision-making. - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Wellbeing:
Champion initiatives that foster inclusivity, psychological safety, and employee wellness in the workplace. Collaborate with departments to design and execute wellness programs and DEI policies.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Organizational Psychology, or a closely related field.
- At least five (5) years of progressive HR experience, three (3) of which must be in a HR Business Partnering role.
- Proficiency in interpreting and applying Kenyan labor laws and a solid grasp of current HR trends and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven experience in coaching, conflict resolution, and relationship management.
- Capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced healthcare or service-driven environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels.
- Experience in HR systems, data analysis, and the use of metrics to guide decision-making.
- Membership in IHRM (Institute of Human Resource Management) or working toward it is an added advantage.
