Job Description – Key Responsibilities
The Principal Accountant will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of the financial accounting function within the organization, ensuring adherence to financial policies, procedures, and standards.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating the implementation of financial accounting policies, strategies, and plans in line with the NRF’s mandate.
- Ensuring the timely processing and payment of approved expenditures.
- Overseeing the verification of both internal and external audit responses and audit queries.
- Ensuring secure custody and accountability of cash, cheques, financial records, and other accountable documents.
- Scrutinizing and evaluating expenditure proposals to ensure alignment with approved budgets and regulations.
- Ensuring the correct interpretation and enforcement of financial regulations and procedures.
- Reviewing and authorizing payment vouchers and committal documents for compliance with rules, procedures, and legislation.
- Coordinating the preparation and submission of timely and accurate management and statutory financial reports.
- Managing an up-to-date inventory of all bank accounts held by the NRF along with their authorized signatories.
- Overseeing tax compliance and the effective handling of all tax matters related to the Fund.
- Authorizing payments and identifying qualified cheque signatories to safeguard the organization’s financial integrity.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- At least nine (9) years of relevant work experience, three (3) of which must be at the level of Senior Accountant Officer or equivalent.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting or Finance option), Business Management/Administration (Accounting or Finance option), or an equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
- Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or possess an equivalent qualification from a recognized professional body.
- Must be registered with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) or another relevant professional organization.
- Completion of a Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications relevant to accounting functions.
- Proven track record of merit and performance excellence in previous roles.
