Medical/Surgical Nurse (Locum)
Reports To: Nurse In-Charge
Job Purpose
The Medical/Surgical Nurse (Locum) will deliver exceptional nursing care to patients in medical and surgical wards, aligning with Premier Hospital’s standards and patient safety protocols.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments, planning, and implementation of nursing interventions.
- Advocate for patient rights and maintain a patient-centered approach.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical nursing skills and evidence-based practices.
- Coordinate patient care with doctors and interdisciplinary teams.
- Facilitate clear communication between patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications and assist in various procedures.
- Orient new patients and provide relevant education.
- Monitor and report on patient conditions.
- Handle emergencies and manage specimen dispatch to labs.
- Prepare wards for admissions and discharges.
- Maintain accurate and confidential nursing records.
- Promote health through education and preventive care.
- Ensure safety by identifying and mitigating care environment risks.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Nursing (Degree is an added advantage)
- At least 2 years’ experience in a medical-surgical ward
- Competency in computer applications
- Valid BLS and ACLS certifications
