Detailed Job Description
The Business Development Intern will support the Sales and Marketing Department through a variety of key activities that help drive customer acquisition, retention, and brand awareness.
Sales and Marketing Pipeline Development
- Identify and develop a sustainable sales pipeline by targeting relevant customer segments.
- Implement marketing initiatives to increase awareness and generate leads.
- Create and pursue cross-selling opportunities within new and existing accounts.
- Prepare competitive quotations for intermediaries and ensure follow-ups for closure.
Business Development Support
- Assist in achieving revenue targets and expanding AFD’s customer base.
- Participate in setting and achieving sales goals and performance benchmarks.
- Engage in industry networking and relationship building to create new opportunities.
- Support the promotion of AFD services to various stakeholders with the goal of contract negotiation and closing.
Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
- Process client orders within CRM systems to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain up-to-date customer records and contact schedules.
- Manage client databases and update interactions and transactions into CRM platforms.
- Coordinate timely communication for account renewals and premium collections.
- Ensure successful order deliveries and customer satisfaction.
Client Servicing and Account Management
- Assist in managing client portfolios for long-term business sustainability.
- Service existing accounts and maintain consistent communication to foster loyalty.
- Provide ongoing customer support including pre-sale and post-sale interactions.
- Regularly liaise with intermediaries and clients to maintain healthy working relationships.
- Educate and update intermediaries on AFD products and service offerings.
Administrative and Reporting Duties
- Prepare comprehensive reports (daily, weekly, monthly) to analyze market performance, renewal trends, and revenue metrics.
- Offer administrative support to the Sales Department, including document filing, printing of Maisha Cards, and managing office stationery.
- Contribute to internal process improvements and operational efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation to support departmental goals.
Client Engagement and Brand Representation
- Represent AMREF Flying Doctors at industry events and exhibitions to enhance visibility.
- Promote AFD’s services and solutions in public forums and sales meetings.
- Professionally handle customer inquiries via phone, email, and in-person visits.
- Conduct regular visits to both potential and existing clients and intermediaries.
Coordination and Communication
- Act as a liaison between AFD and intermediaries, ensuring service platforms such as USSD remain operational.
- Communicate effectively with customers to understand their needs and offer appropriate solutions.
- Follow up on outstanding payments and renewal discussions with professionalism and persistence.
Other Duties
- Provide operational and logistical support where needed in the Business Development department.
- Carry out any additional tasks assigned by supervisors to meet department goals.
- Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to the changing needs of a high-paced environment.
Requirements
Candidates interested in this position must meet the following criteria:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Have proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM systems, Outlook, and internet tools.
- Possess a foundational understanding of customer communication platforms such as CRM tools.
