Job Overview

Equity Afya seeks a qualified and dedicated Pharmaceutical Technologist to join its healthcare facility in Wajir. This position involves supporting the clinical team by ensuring the accurate preparation, dispensing, and storage of medications. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing pharmaceutical operations, offering guidance on medication usage, and promoting patient safety.

This role is ideal for professionals seeking to contribute to equitable healthcare in a challenging but highly rewarding environment. The position requires both technical competence and a commitment to ethical pharmaceutical practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense prescription medications accurately to patients as per physician instructions.
  • Provide advice to patients regarding medication usage, dosage, possible side effects, and storage.
  • Manage the inventory of medicines and medical supplies, including ordering and restocking.
  • Maintain proper records of prescriptions, inventory levels, and patient medication histories.
  • Ensure storage of medicines under recommended environmental conditions to maintain efficacy.
  • Uphold cleanliness and sterility of the pharmacy and its equipment.
  • Support in the compounding and preparation of pharmaceutical formulations when required.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapy.
  • Ensure compliance with Pharmacy and Poisons Board regulations and institutional guidelines.
  • Participate in pharmacovigilance activities including the reporting of adverse drug reactions.
  • Educate patients and community members on responsible drug usage and health promotion.
  • Engage in internal audits and support the implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Valid license and registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
  • At least one (1) year working experience in a hospital or community pharmacy setting.
  • Strong integrity and ethical standards.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications including pharmacy inventory systems.
