Overview
The Hospital Accountant plays a central role in ensuring that all financial transactions at the hospital are accurate, timely, and properly documented. Reporting functionally to the Finance Manager and operationally to the Hospital Manager, this position is crucial in maintaining financial transparency and integrity. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical accounting skills with an understanding of hospital operations and finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction Accuracy and Daily Posting
- Ensure that all financial transactions occurring at the hospital branch are accurately captured, correctly allocated, and posted in the ERP system every day.
- Guarantee completeness and consistency in financial documentation for internal and audit purposes.
- Petty Cash Management
- Control and maintain the hospital’s petty cash in accordance with established protocols.
- Perform regular reconciliations, ensure cash flow sufficiency, and prepare replenishment requests when necessary.
- Doctor’s Payments and Daily Reconciliations
- Compute and post doctors’ share of payments on a daily basis.
- Reconcile daily unit collections including cash and cheque transactions.
- Ensure all banking transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
- Ledger Maintenance and Reconciliation
- Maintain accurate records of all ledgers including payables, receivables, general ledger, and bank ledgers.
- Conduct monthly reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Invoicing and Journals
- Oversee the finalization of outpatient invoices and process credit invoices efficiently.
- Prepare and sign off on all journal entries for hospital financial transactions.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial reports and comprehensive accounts for the unit.
- Analyze financial data to provide insights and support to the hospital’s management team.
- Monitor budget utilization and advise on cost control strategies.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Professional qualification at diploma level in CPA-K, ACCA, or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a busy hospital environment.
