About the Organization

The Global Corporate Solutions (GCS) department operates under the World Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer. It is responsible for several key corporate services including Corporate Security, Real Estate & Facilities, and other support functions critical to the organization’s mission.

Within GCS, the Corporate Security division (GCSSC) is entrusted with protecting staff, property, and operations by developing and executing strategic security programs. Operating both at Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and in field offices across 130+ countries, GCSSC is committed to ensuring that staff can carry out their work safely and efficiently in diverse and sometimes challenging environments.

About the Role: Security Operations Associate – Training Team

The Security Operations Associate will be responsible for implementing and supporting the World Bank’s security training and awareness initiatives across the Africa region, with Nairobi serving as the operational base. This is a locally recruited position categorized under grade GE and offered as a three-year fixed-term appointment.

This role directly supports the delivery and management of learning programs aimed at increasing the security awareness and preparedness of World Bank Group staff. It will involve planning, organizing, and executing training programs, managing knowledge-sharing platforms, and facilitating staff development activities that align with the WBG’s global security strategy.

Job Responsibilities

The Security Operations Associate will report to the Senior Security Specialist (Strategic Training and Preparedness) and will undertake the following primary duties and responsibilities:

1. Training Development and Delivery

  • Design, develop, and execute security training and awareness programs tailored to the needs of diverse staff groups within the WBG.
  • Deliver training sessions that cover a broad range of security topics, from basic safety awareness to advanced preparedness modules.
  • Facilitate both in-person and virtual training sessions to ensure accessibility across different geographic locations.
  • Work closely with other trainers and team members to coordinate and optimize the scheduling and delivery of training initiatives.
  • Update and maintain a library of Corporate Security Learning Resources to ensure availability of current and relevant material.

2. Strategic Training and Awareness Coordination

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Corporate Security learning strategy, ensuring its alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Conduct research and utilize innovative methodologies to enhance training effectiveness and staff engagement.
  • Support the expansion of training programs based on feedback, evaluation results, and emerging security risks.
  • Promote security awareness through the development of promotional materials, including videos, posters, and internal communications.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and briefings for unit leadership on training activities and outcomes.

3. Knowledge Management and Collaboration

  • Identify and incorporate knowledge-sharing tools and practices from across the WBG and partner organizations.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining the Corporate Security Open Learning Campus (OLC) catalog and associated training resources.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including other GCS departments and external partners, to organize courses, workshops, and specialized training events.
  • Monitor training utilization, measure impact through surveys, and suggest enhancements based on evaluation data.

4. Administrative and Logistical Support

  • Support logistical planning and implementation of training-related events, such as conferences, safety awareness sessions, and specialized workshops.
  • Coordinate activities related to staff development, publications, and reporting.
  • Ensure timely communication with participants and partners regarding training schedules, requirements, and updates.
  • Provide technical support for virtual learning sessions using SharePoint and other learning management systems.

5. Reporting and Program Oversight

  • Provide regular updates to the Training Team and senior security specialists on program progress and challenges.
  • Highlight training program achievements, flag issues for resolution, and propose innovative solutions to enhance delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of training attendance, completion, and performance metrics for internal reporting and evaluation.

Specialized Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience in planning, organizing, and delivering security or professional development training in multicultural and international environments.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with learning and graphic software platforms is a significant asset.
  • Familiarity with WBG, UN, or diplomatic security operations is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize diverse information sources and translate them into impactful learning programs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, deliver under tight deadlines, and communicate effectively in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Technological proficiency in using SharePoint and other knowledge-sharing or e-learning platforms.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required.
  • Proficiency in French is strongly preferred, given the regional scope and multilingual nature of WBG operations in Africa.
