Key Responsibilities
As a Finance Intern at Cytonn Asset Managers Limited, you will be entrusted with a range of responsibilities that provide practical exposure to financial operations in a regulated and structured environment. Your duties will span the following areas:
- Bookkeeping and Month-End Closure
- Prepare and maintain detailed and accurate books of accounts.
- Assist with month-end closing processes, ensuring that all necessary journal entries are correctly posted.
- Contribute to the preparation of general monthly fund accounts to reflect the financial health of each fund.
- Statutory Financial Reporting
- Participate in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory financial reports for submission to the Capital Markets Authority.
- Ensure that the reports are accurate, timely, and comply with all applicable financial standards and regulatory requirements.
- Tax Compliance and Filing
- Ensure strict adherence to all tax requirements, including but not limited to PAYE (Pay As You Earn), VAT (Value Added Tax), and WHT (Withholding Tax).
- Assist in the filing and remittance of taxes to relevant authorities within stipulated timelines.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all tax filings and ensure compliance.
- Banking and Cash Reconciliation
- Carry out monthly bank and cash reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Substantiate all financial transactions with appropriate and verified source documentation.
- Invoicing and Receivables
- Raise and process monthly invoices for services rendered by the fund manager.
- Maintain up-to-date and compliant records of all invoice transactions.
- Follow up with clients and partners to ensure prompt payment and resolution of outstanding balances.
- Transaction Posting and Fund Tracking
- Timely posting of original source documents into the accounting system to ensure up-to-date financial records.
- Track fund-related transactions and ensure all documents are appropriately categorized and recorded.
- Payments Processing
- Assist in the processing of payments to various fund service providers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Verify supporting documentation before initiating any payment processes.
- Audit Support and Documentation
- Provide comprehensive assistance during both internal and external audit exercises.
- Respond promptly to audit queries and provide necessary documents as required.
- Maintain organized records and ensure all transactional documentation is available and secure.
- Additional Assignments
- Execute other finance-related tasks as may be assigned by supervisors.
- Support cross-functional initiatives that require financial input or analysis.
Who We Are Looking For
This internship opportunity is specifically tailored for individuals who possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline, preferably with a Second Class Honors (Upper Division) or higher.
- A minimum of a B+ grade in KCSE, with strong performance in both Mathematics and English.
- CPA certification or its equivalent is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, and overall strong computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong numeracy, analytical thinking, and strategic orientation.
