About the Position
The Senior Associate – ESG and Sustainability Assurance plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of ESG and sustainability assurance engagements. The role combines audit execution, supervisory responsibilities, client interaction, and continuous technical development. The ideal candidate is a proactive and analytical professional capable of managing ESG assurance assignments while upholding KPMG’s high standards of integrity and service delivery.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Execution of Assurance Engagements
- Conduct ESG and sustainability assurance tasks assigned by the engagement manager, ensuring all outputs meet quality, accuracy, and compliance benchmarks.
- Follow KPMG methodologies and professional standards while performing fieldwork and audit procedures.
2. Business Development Support
- Identify new ESG opportunities and contribute to proposals and tenders to secure client engagements.
- Maintain existing client relationships through consistent and professional communication.
3. Supervision and Mentorship
- Guide and review the work of junior Associates on the team.
- Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to support their technical and professional growth.
4. Client Relationship Management
- Work closely with clients to understand their ESG assurance needs.
- Respond to client queries effectively and escalate issues where necessary for timely resolution.
5. Technical Knowledge Application
- Apply expert knowledge of various ESG and sustainability frameworks including IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), and Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
- Maintain current awareness of developments in sustainability standards and reporting obligations.
6. Quality and Ethics Compliance
- Uphold the firm’s core values of independence, integrity, and objectivity in all engagements.
- Ensure all deliverables are in compliance with KPMG’s quality and ethical standards.
7. Project Monitoring
- Track budgets, timelines, and deliverables, proactively identifying risks or delays.
- Communicate any overruns or scope deviations to engagement managers promptly.
8. Engagement Documentation
- Prepare clear, accurate, and timely documentation and client deliverables.
- Ensure proper archiving of documents as per regulatory and firm standards.
9. Professional Development
- Participate actively in continuous training sessions and firm development initiatives.
- Maintain a strong growth mindset by embracing new challenges and innovations in ESG.
10. Policy Adherence
- Comply with all internal policies, including those related to risk management and operations.
- Maintain thorough records and comply with data privacy and information security standards.
11. Additional Assignments
- Be flexible and open to undertaking other assignments related to sustainability and ESG as delegated by supervisors.
Academic, Professional Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field.
- CPA or ACCA qualification (finalist level).
- Between 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in ESG and sustainability assurance, preferably within a professional services firm.
- Solid understanding of ESG reporting standards such as IFRS S1 & S2, GRI, Integrated Reporting Framework, and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
- Demonstrated experience in data verification, evidence collection, and conducting integrity checks for ESG-related information.
