Overview of the Role
The E-Content Digitalization Assistant will play a pivotal role in the university’s digital learning ecosystem. The successful candidate will support the ODEL Directorate in transforming traditional course materials into engaging, accessible, and pedagogically sound multimedia e-learning content.
This position demands a skilled individual with strong multimedia production abilities, an eye for detail, and a good understanding of digital learning tools and platforms. The role involves active collaboration with faculty members and other technical staff to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of digital education content.
Detailed Job Description
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
E-Learning Material Formatting and Uploading
Assist in the preparation and formatting of available e-learning course content.
Upload finalized materials onto designated learning platforms for access by learners and instructors.
Ensure that all digital learning materials meet the university’s technical standards and educational quality benchmarks.
Content Digitalization and Multimedia Enhancement
Support the conversion of traditional instructional materials into multimedia-rich content, including audio, video, animations, graphics, and interactive elements.
Utilize digital production tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Articulate 360, and iSpring to enrich learning resources.
Audio and Video Production
Record lectures, tutorials, and practical demonstrations as required.
Edit and produce clean, professional-quality audio and video content ready for deployment on the university’s Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Interactive Content Design
Collaborate with instructional designers and faculty to develop interactive e-learning modules that enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
Design and implement quizzes, simulations, and other interactive digital elements.
Digital Content Archiving
Maintain an organized archive of completed digital learning assets for future use or reference.
Implement version control and file management practices to ensure easy access and integrity of content over time.
Technical and Multimedia Support
Offer technical support to faculty members using multimedia tools in course development or delivery.
Provide basic multimedia troubleshooting and editing, including video trimming and simple graphic designs.
Support faculty during multimedia recording sessions or online instruction sessions.
ODEL System Support Tasks
Assist with the uploading and management of online examination question banks.
Provide support in other digital education tools and systems as may be introduced by the university.
Additional Duties
Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the section or departmental head in relation to ODEL support and content development.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate for this role is highly organized, creatively inclined, and technologically adept. They must demonstrate the ability to work efficiently under minimal supervision while meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic academic environment.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification routes:
Route 1: Degree Holders
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Multimedia, or a related discipline from a recognized academic institution.
At least three (3) years of relevant work experience in a similar digital content production or e-learning role.
Proficiency in using multimedia production tools (e.g., iSpring, Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, Articulate 360).
Experience in:
Audio and video editing
Animation development
Content digitization
Use of digital learning tools
Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle) is an added advantage.
Strong organizational, creative, and technical skills with attention to detail.
Route 2: Higher National Diploma Holders
Higher National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Multimedia, or a related discipline from a recognized academic institution.
At least two (2) years of experience at Grade 7 at MKU or an equivalent position elsewhere.
Competence in:
Multimedia production tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, and Articulate 360
Audio/video editing and animation
Digital learning environments and tools
Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Moodle) is an added advantage.
Must demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines independently and work collaboratively with a team.
Working Environment
The E-Content Digitalization Assistant will be based at MKU Thika Campus, working within the Directorate of Open Distance and Electronic Learning. This is a professional office and studio-based environment with occasional field-based recordings or interactive sessions with faculty.
The role may require occasional extended hours during peak academic calendar periods and demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and time management.
