Job Summary
As a Branch Operations Team Member, you will be responsible for delivering excellent food and beverage services to customers in a safe and clean environment. You will support both kitchen and service operations, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain quality control for all food and beverages served. You will also work closely with baristas to ensure smooth operations at the counter.
Duties and Responsibilities
Service and Customer Engagement
- Take food and beverage orders from guests and deliver them promptly, accurately, and neatly in accordance with customer specifications and internal standards.
- Present menus, suggest items to guests based on preferences, and promote new or popular menu options through suggestive selling techniques.
- Present bills in a timely manner, process payments, and give back correct change.
- Assist customers in menu navigation and provide accurate information about items offered.
- Address customer concerns or service-related issues promptly and professionally, escalating complex issues to management as necessary.
Food and Beverage Preparation
- Assist in preparing, presenting, and serving food and beverages in line with company recipes, portion standards, and hygiene protocols.
- Ensure food produced meets the required quality standards in terms of taste, presentation, and freshness.
- Perform food prep tasks including proper storage, rotation, and organization of ingredients and supplies.
Counter and Station Management
- Maintain a clean, organized, and functional counter at all times to ensure a conducive workspace for baristas.
- Ensure adequate backup supplies are maintained at the counter throughout the shift.
- Keep pastry displays, merchandise counters, condiment stations, and takeaway counters clean and well-stocked.
- Participate in daily stock-taking at the counter and communicate restocking needs to the barista in charge.
Hygiene and Sanitation
- Uphold kitchen hygiene by cleaning utensils, cutlery, crockery, guest and staff washrooms, and equipment.
- Conduct sanitization procedures for all food preparation and service areas.
- Practice proper waste disposal by emptying bins, maintaining grease traps, and segregating waste as per safety guidelines.
- Ensure all detergents and cleaning agents are used correctly and stored safely.
Operational Support
- Attend daily shift briefings and team meetings to understand the day’s objectives and updates.
- Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to food production, service, and hygiene are strictly followed.
- Communicate inventory needs, maintenance concerns, or guest feedback to the Manager in charge.
- Assist the barista in monitoring stock levels at the counter and ensure the ordering process is timely and accurate.
- Uphold integrity and professionalism in handling customer orders, company equipment, and financial transactions.
Key Accountabilities
The performance of a Branch Operations Team Member will be measured using the following indicators:
- Food Safety Compliance: Adhering to food safety guidelines and hygiene standards, ensuring that all items prepared and served meet health regulations.
- Customer Service Excellence: Ensuring guests have a positive dining experience through timely service, accuracy, and friendly interaction.
- Counter and Kitchen Hygiene: Maintaining a clean, tidy, and organized counter and kitchen area in line with company standards.
- Product Quality Assurance: Ensuring that beverages and food items are consistently prepared according to recipe specifications and quality standards.
- Stock Management: Maintaining accurate stock records and initiating timely restocking requests when inventory falls below required levels.
- Station Efficiency: Demonstrating accountability in managing assigned stations, contributing to smooth branch operations and reduced wastage.
Work Environment
You will work in a fast-paced hospitality setting that prioritizes cleanliness, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The position involves long hours, including evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. The environment fosters teamwork, ongoing learning, and opportunities for advancement within the company.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Applicants must hold a KCSE certificate with a mean grade of C plain.
- Must be interested in the hospitality industry and willing to grow within it.
- Must have a basic understanding of food safety standards, including HACCP.
- Should demonstrate a willingness to work under pressure, including during peak hours and busy weekends.
- Should be physically fit and capable of performing cleaning, carrying supplies, and standing for extended periods.

Experience
Although prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with some experience or exposure in the hospitality industry will have an advantage. Prior service in food and beverage outlets or equivalent setups is an added benefit. Internal applicants should have worked at Java House for at least six months or possess equivalent external experience.
