We are currently hiring two candidates for this exciting position at our Mai Mahiu branch.

Primary Purpose and Scope of the Job

The primary role of the Waitstaff is to warmly welcome guests, guide them through the menu, take their food and beverage orders, serve meals, and maintain a clean and orderly environment. All duties are carried out in accordance with Java House service standards to guarantee a consistent and enjoyable guest experience.


Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be expected to perform a broad range of duties aimed at ensuring customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. These include:

  • Welcoming and seating guests in a friendly and timely manner.
  • Presenting a variety of menu options and leading with suggestive selling techniques tailored to customer preferences.
  • Helping guests navigate the menu comfortably by informing them of daily specials and menu changes.
  • Taking customer orders accurately and ensuring timely delivery to the appropriate tables as per order specifications.
  • Responding to guest inquiries about food, beverages, and other restaurant services.
  • Monitoring dining areas to ensure guest satisfaction and addressing concerns promptly or escalating to the manager if necessary.
  • Collaborating effectively with other team members to ensure smooth service flow.
  • Ensuring the correct amount of change is available at all times and maintaining float balances with no shortages.
  • Ensuring timely closure and accountability for all counter variances.
  • Managing and maintaining counter equipment and machines in good working order.
  • Presenting bills promptly and receiving payments accurately.
  • Ordering items via the Vuka system and receiving deliveries from Foodscape or other suppliers.
  • Keying in all orders into the POS system efficiently.
  • Receiving and dispatching aggregator platform orders (e.g., online or app-based).
  • Packing takeaway orders and ensuring timely delivery to guests.
  • Clearing tables and cleaning counters once guests have finished dining.
  • Ensuring general cleaning tasks are completed and hygiene standards maintained.
  • Reporting repair, maintenance, or IT-related issues to the Area Manager.
  • Performing branch closing duties responsibly.

Key Accountabilities and Performance Indicators

The performance of the selected candidates will be evaluated based on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as:

  • Timeliness in seating and attending to guests.
  • Accurate and prompt food and beverage order processing.
  • Efficient cleaning and preparation of tables and condiment stations.
  • Timely and correct billing and change handling.
  • Effectiveness in guiding guests through the menu.
  • Upholding cleanliness standards in all service areas.
  • Quality assurance in food and beverage presentation.
  • Proper and efficient use of company resources.
  • Accuracy in stock management and reporting.
  • Communication with guests and internal team members.
  • Contribution to branch sales and guest satisfaction scores.

  • Adherence to food safety regulations and internal hygiene standards.

Job Specifications and Required Traits

Special Conditions of Employment

  • Candidates must possess sound knowledge of the menu and Java House product offerings.
  • A minimum of a KCSE certificate with a mean grade of C plain is required.
  • Applicants must have either:
    • Worked at Java House for at least six months, or
    • Possess relevant equivalent experience in a reputable food and beverage establishment.
