Position: Network Engineering Technician

Location: Mombasa, Kenya

Mission Statement for the Role:

The Network Engineering Technician will be responsible for the deployment, commissioning, support, and preventive maintenance of Poa’s wireless network infrastructure in Mombasa and other assigned regions. The role is central to ensuring high-quality and cost-effective delivery of network build-outs, supporting the organization’s commercial growth targets while maintaining excellence in safety and service standards.


Overall Responsibility:

This position requires the technician to manage the end-to-end execution of wireless installations, field support operations, commissioning of new network sites, and routine preventive maintenance. The goal is to consistently deliver installations that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, efficiency, and scalability to support Poa!’s continued national expansion.


Area of Coverage:

  • Mombasa County and Surrounding Areas

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Network Deployment and Commissioning
    • Execute end-to-end wireless infrastructure deployments for Distribution Points (DPs) in accordance with Poa’s strict installation guidelines.
    • Commission new network sites to full operational readiness within defined timelines and quality metrics.
    • Support site expansions and upgrades in existing networks to improve performance and capacity.
  2. Preventive and Reactive Maintenance
    • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance of installed equipment to sustain a network uptime of 99.9%.
    • Respond promptly to faults and outages, ensuring timely resolution to minimize service interruptions.
    • Utilize tools and diagnostic equipment to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  3. Safety and Community Engagement
    • Ensure strict compliance with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards at all sites.
    • Maintain clean and hazard-free installations with zero site accidents or fatalities.
    • Prevent installation-related complaints from the community, including issues related to property damage, noise, or improper site conduct.
  4. Material Accountability and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records and reports on all materials used and work performed.
    • Ensure 100% accountability and transparency in all network activities.
    • Report progress, challenges, and incidents in real-time through the designated reporting platforms.
  5. Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including the Commercial, Product, and Support departments.
    • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and quality of deployment processes.
    • Engage in ongoing training and development to stay updated with industry trends and new technologies.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field.

Key Competencies and Experience:

  • A minimum of three (3) years hands-on experience in wireless network installation and commissioning, preferably in the telecom industry.
  • Skilled in antenna and power system installations, with a demonstrated ability to work confidently at heights.
  • Good working knowledge of network routing, switching, IT systems, and fiber planning is a strong advantage.
  • Proven success in implementing large-scale wireless site builds and commissioning projects under strict timelines and limited resources.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, and efficiency, with a consistent record of achieving high performance in challenging environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure, while delivering high-quality results.
  • Willingness to travel frequently across the country, sometimes on short notice.
  • Experience in working with diverse teams across different Kenyan regions.

  • Proven experience working across multiple geographic locations with multicultural and diverse teams.
  • History of improving operational efficiency and driving continuous improvement in technical field operations.
