As part of its commitment to advancing equity and opportunity, APHRC is implementing the PROMOTE II Study, a randomized control trial under the “Challenging the Politics of Social Exclusion (CPSE)” Project. The study seeks to empower adolescent mothers, improve their health and that of their children, and evaluate the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of targeted interventions. The PROMOTE II study is being conducted in urban informal settlements within Nairobi County, specifically in Korogocho and Viwandani.

To support data collection for this important project, APHRC is recruiting dedicated and experienced Quantitative Field Interviewers. Job Description

The Quantitative Field Interviewers will play a critical role in collecting high-quality data to support the objectives of the PROMOTE II Study. Interviewers will engage directly with parenting adolescent girls in informal settlements to administer structured baseline surveys. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, a high level of integrity, familiarity with the local context, and the ability to work effectively in diverse environments.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Quantitative Field Interviewer, you will:

  • Participate fully in all pre-survey training sessions, including those focused on ethics, research protocols, and use of digital tools.
  • Uphold ethical standards in conducting research, ensuring confidentiality, respect, and informed consent throughout the study.
  • Participate in pilot surveys to test and refine the research tools in informal settlement areas not affiliated with the main study.
  • Engage in household listing and entity generation, identifying eligible households and individuals for participation in the study.
  • Accurately and respectfully administer baseline questionnaires to parenting adolescent girls, capturing relevant information using mobile data collection tools.
  • Report any challenges encountered in the field to the supervisors promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate closely with the field team, supervisors, and project coordinators to ensure successful and timely data collection.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C Plain or equivalent.
  • Proven experience conducting fieldwork (quantitative or qualitative) in Kenya, particularly in urban informal settlements such as Korogocho or Viwandani.
  • Ability to navigate the local community context and build trust with respondents.
  • Competence in using digital devices (e.g., tablets) for data collection will be an added advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and under tight timelines in field conditions.
