Position Overview: Medical Officer Intern (4 Positions)

Purpose of the Role
As a Medical Officer Intern, you will work under the guidance of experienced clinicians to fulfill registration requirements and grow into a well-rounded medical practitioner. The internship is designed to consolidate your knowledge, clinical reasoning, and communication skills in a real-world hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
As part of your training, you will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Professional Conduct
- Uphold the dignity and ethics of the medical profession at all times.
- Clinical Assessment
- Perform comprehensive history taking and physical examinations.
- Request and interpret relevant laboratory and diagnostic investigations.
- Medical Documentation
- Maintain accurate and updated patient records, including history, diagnosis, investigations, and care plans.
- Prepare well-written referral notes, case summaries, and discharge summaries.
- Patient Management
- Provide evidence-based, high-quality clinical care under supervision.
- Participate in ward rounds, clinical meetings, and mortality audits.
- Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure continuity and clarity of care.
- Present cases during CPDs, audits, or clinical forums in a coherent and concise manner.
- Learning & Development
- Participate in Avenue Healthcare’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities and research initiatives.
- Be an open, self-driven learner, eager to develop competencies in multiple departments.
- Community Engagement
- Assist in the development and implementation of supervised community health programs.
- Quality Assurance
- Promote knowledge-based and ethical medical practice in line with institutional and national guidelines.
- Feedback & Reporting
- Submit reports and feedback on internship progress and training experience to supervisors and the Internship Coordinator.
- Other Duties
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor in support of clinical operations.

Qualifications & Certifications
To be considered for this internship, applicants must have the following:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a KMPDC-recognized medical school.
- A signed Hippocratic Oath.
- A valid Internship License from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Valid certificates in:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
- Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment Plus (ETAT+) or EPALS
Required Experience & Skills
- Evidence of having completed an elective term in a recognized medical facility.
- Working knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems.
- Familiarity with clinical data recording, patient management systems, and hospital protocols.

- Experience or interest in bench or bedside clinical research.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
