  1. Nurse – Nairobi (Job Reference: VN00844)
    Terms of Service: Contract

    The Nurse will support clinical and research activities in KEMRI’s ongoing studies based in Nairobi. The role demands both technical and interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalism and ethical integrity. Key Responsibilities:
    • Administer nursing care to research participants and patients in compliance with national nursing standards and study protocols.
    • Participate in screening, enrollment, and follow-up of study participants.
    • Assist in obtaining informed consent and maintain proper documentation of all clinical procedures.
    • Collaborate with clinical officers and research scientists in the implementation of study procedures.
    • Manage and monitor patient vitals, administer prescribed medication, and observe/report adverse events as per study guidelines.
    • Ensure appropriate infection prevention and control measures are adhered to at all times.
    • Keep accurate records of nursing assessments, medications, and any interventions provided.
    • Provide health education and counseling to study participants when required.
    • Assist with data collection and timely entry of clinical data into designated databases.

    The Nutrition Intern will be attached to the Centre for Public Health Research (CPHR), under the mentorship of experienced nutritionists and research scientists. This role is intended to provide practical experience in nutrition research, data collection, and community-based health promotion. Key Responsibilities:
    • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of nutrition-related studies.
    • Support community mobilization efforts for nutrition surveys and interventions.
    • Participate in anthropometric assessments and dietary intake data collection from study participants.
    • Assist in analyzing nutritional data and preparing preliminary reports.
    • Provide support in educational campaigns and nutrition counseling under supervision.
    • Maintain proper documentation of field activities and ensure the safety of research tools.

    The Registered Clinical Officer will work under the supervision of the study Principal Investigator and provide clinical services in accordance with research protocols, institutional policies, and ethical regulations.     • Conduct clinical assessments and examinations of research participants.
    • Diagnose and treat minor ailments as per the research and national clinical guidelines.
    • Perform medical screenings to determine participant eligibility for inclusion in studies.
    • Record and manage clinical data accurately and timely using electronic systems and study forms.
    • Participate in training sessions and contribute to capacity-building of junior staff.

    The Research Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of field activities, data collection, and reporting across various studies being undertaken by KEMRI in Nairobi. The ideal candidate should be dynamic, well-organized, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities:
    • Collect data from participants using structured and semi-structured questionnaires.
    • Conduct household and community visits in accordance with study plans.
    • Ensure proper documentation and secure handling of participant data.
    • Carry out data cleaning and preliminary analysis under the direction of study coordinators.
    • Participate in translations of study tools and community sensitization activities.
    • Assist in scheduling participant visits and managing follow-up interviews.
    • Work collaboratively with field supervisors to ensure adherence to study timelines.
    • Submit regular reports detailing field challenges, participant feedback, and progress updates.
    • Uphold ethical and cultural sensitivity when engaging with study populations.
    Preferred Attributes:
    • Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection methods.
    • Familiarity with digital data collection tools such as REDCap, ODK, or KoboToolbox.
    • Ability to navigate diverse community settings and build rapport with participants.
