Detailed Job Description
The Branch Manager will be expected to execute the following responsibilities effectively:
- Branch Operations Management
- Ensure seamless daily operations of the branch to promote optimal functionality and service delivery.
- Monitor and control workflow within the branch to align with internal processes and client expectations.
- Promote compliance with company regulations and operational procedures.
- Business Development and Sales Strategy
- Lead branch-level business development initiatives by identifying potential markets and sales opportunities.
- Develop and implement growth strategies tailored to local market conditions and aligned with overall corporate goals.
- Establish and drive sales targets for unit managers and Direct Sales Force (DSF) while maintaining focus on quality customer engagement.
- Human Resource Management
- Recruit and assign unit managers, brokers, agents, and members of the DSF to ensure adequate manpower and territory coverage.
- Supervise the onboarding and placement process to ensure new hires are integrated efficiently into their roles.
- Training and Development
- Conduct comprehensive training programs for the DSF and unit managers on selling techniques, customer care, professional conduct, and compliance.
- Organize ongoing capacity building initiatives to empower agents and ensure their consistent contribution to the sales pipeline.
- Leadership and Supervision
- Provide leadership to all branch staff by fostering a culture of accountability, integrity, and high performance.
- Guide and mentor team members to promote career growth, motivation, and organizational loyalty.
- Serve as the branch’s final decision-maker, ensuring prompt resolution of operational and client-related matters.
- Performance Management
- Set specific, measurable goals for the branch and track performance against those objectives.
- Implement and oversee the branch’s performance appraisal system, providing feedback and developmental guidance where needed.
- Policy Enforcement
- Enforce company policies related to cash handling, dress code, customer service, and operational compliance.
- Monitor adherence to ethical conduct and internal procedures to maintain the integrity of branch operations.
- Disciplinary Oversight and Conflict Resolution
- Work in collaboration with departmental heads to manage staff discipline within the framework of the law and company policies.
- Handle grievances and conflicts professionally while fostering a respectful and productive work environment.
- Asset Management and Resource Utilization
- Ensure optimal use and maintenance of company assets and physical infrastructure within the branch.
- Regularly assess asset conditions and ensure timely repairs, servicing, and inventory controls.
- Leave and Attendance Management
- Approve staff leave requests in accordance with operational needs and continuity requirements.
- Maintain attendance records and ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration
- Work closely with departments such as underwriting, claims, finance, and ICT to ensure efficient delivery of services.
- Participate in risk mitigation planning, cross-functional coordination, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Reporting and Advisory
- Prepare and submit periodic performance and operational reports to the Head of Business Development.
- Provide strategic input and advisory insights to aid in policy formulation and corporate planning.
- Additional Duties
- Execute any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Business Development or senior management from time to time.
- Maintain an active role in community engagement and networking to strengthen the company’s local brand and visibility.
Educational Requirements
Candidates must hold the following academic and professional qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Insurance, or a related business field from a recognized university.
- Must be a member of one of the following professional bodies: Insurance Institute of Kenya (IIK), Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Marketing Society of Kenya (MSK), or Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing will be considered an added advantage.
Experience
Applicants must demonstrate a robust career in the insurance or financial services sector with the following:
- At least five (5) years of relevant experience in a sales or branch management role, preferably within a general insurance company.
- Proven leadership in managing multi-functional teams and overseeing operational activities in a dynamic work environment.
